I'm waiting too. It seems they sent out waitlists already so rejections seem to be the next logical progression

Their visitation weekend is March 18-20.

Thank you for the advice and the info on Minnesota bsquar. I'm pretty excited about the schools I've gotten into so far. Sorry that this is not on topic, but what do people think of UCSD in terms of behavior/political psych? Would you put it ahead of UMN (or OSU or UNC for that matter)?
-
I'm in American politics with a focus on political behavior, public opinion, and elections. I think Minnesota would be a great fit for me and I'm hoping to get in. At this point, though, I'm not sure I would go if I was admitted. I've gotten into some programs that seem more attractive. Plus, for some reason I can't see myself living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul. Does anyone have any insight about the cities? My GRE scores are about the average of the people they admit, but I think that with my interests, letters, and a strong SOP I have a good shot of getting in. I might be competing against you AP since our interests are pretty similar. I think your chances are good. (I also applied to MIT and would really like to go there so we're likely competing against one another there as well.)

I also didn't get an email from Columbia, which tops off a pretty disappointing week. Does anyone know anything about UCLA? In years past, they usually sent out decisions by this time.
-
I've also started to get more and more worried about California's financial problems, which is complicating my decisions greatly. The fact that UCSD seems to be rushing to get admitted students to commit to visiting without giving any financial information at all worries me for some reason. On an unrelated subject, I've received nothing but rejections this week so I'm hoping tomorrow will finally bring good news (for a lot of us).

Hmm, I assumed I didn't get in but I haven't gotten an email yet. I'd really rather know for sure than have to continue waiting. This is killing me. EDIT: I spoke too soon. Just got my rejection. Oh well, it wasn't the best fit anyway.

Well done! I'm sure it's a relief to have at least one offer on the table. Amherst is a nice town.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd really like to know for sure instead of waiting around and wondering incessantly. I also thought this would be a big week for decisions, but other than Princeton and Penn, not much has happened yet. What gives?

Happiness is also relative. If you really think about it, we are all extremely lucky to even be in this position. The possibility of getting a PhD would be an impossibility for most people in the world; they never had half the opportunities or support we did. You have to make the most with what you're given and keep everything in perspective. Don't assume that if you don't do precisely what you pictured for yourself happiness will elude you.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here or sound unsympathetic, but I find it a bit baffling that people who have been accepted to some great programs (Michigan, Texas, UVA...) are complaining. I think it's offensive and disheartening to those who have yet to get in anywhere and are truly worrying. Sure, I've been rejected at a few of my top choices, but I've also got some acceptances and I'm thrilled. We can't all expect to get into our dream school (well, except maybe SuddenlyParanoid). Try to look on the bright side of things.

UCLA notified around this time last year, so we'll probably hear something before the week is out. I haven't heard anything from or about MIT, but I hope we don't have to wait until the end of the month for them. So yes, if anyone has any info they can share, please do.

Mine works fine. Still no decision posted. A few people said yesterday that the problems could be caused by not logging out properly. I've had problems accessing it before, too. I just logged out, restarted my browser, and waited a while and it was fine.

Congrats to all those who got into Princeton! Can we assume that the people who didn't get emailed aren't in? Did you receive mass or personalized emails?
-
I also just got an email rejection from Michigan. I'd been told a couple weeks ago that I didn't get in so the decision was not surprising.
-
You beat me to it.
-
That timeline makes sense. Since I haven't heard anything from Berkeley yet, I'm hoping they'll send out more decisions next week. Also, judging from last year's results, we should hear from UCLA and more from Michigan next week. The 17th was the day last year for for UCLA and Michigan had a bunch of decisions later in the week.

I saw your post and tried to PM you for more info, but was told "The member cannot receive any new messages" for some reason. If you could send me what you know, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to know more about potential funding before I commit to flying all the way out to California. Thanks.
-
I've also got nothing from Princeton. With the volume of results and the fact that they're acceptances and rejections, you'd think one of us would have gotten an email. Clearly suspicious.
-
Also in at UCSD (with the same generic email as everyone else). It was completely unexpected. I was hoping to hear from Berkeley today, but not UCSD. I literally jumped up and down and screamed when I read it. Super excited.
-
I totally agree. I would much rather them send out decisions all at once so I knew for sure one way or another. It beats waiting for potentially a week, stressing, and checking my email every 30 seconds.
-
For people still stressing about Berkeley (myself included), I have good news. I emailed the Graduate Advisor and got this response: We have started to send out decisions today, which will continue well into next week. You will hear from us by email. I'm hoping by "you" she means me specifically and that my acceptance is imminent, but I'm probably overanalyzing it. Encouraging nonetheless. Congrats to all those who have gotten in already!
-
I figured the same thing, I just wanted to hold out hope a bit longer that they'd be sending out more acceptances. Berkeley was also one of my top choices.
-
To those who were accepted at Berkeley, did you receive an email? I haven't gotten one yet so I'm wondering if that's a bad sign. I checked my status online but it hasn't been updated since Feb. 4.

I actually used this paper and its rankings in helping decide which schools to apply to. It shows that the Ivies aren't quite as dominant as most rankings would have you believe, at least in terms of placement. Also, natofone is right. The rankings in the Fowler article seem a bit distorted since they evaluate data back to 1960. If you look at their rankings for 1993-2002, some schools have struggled with placements recently (Indiana, Wisconsin, Johns Hopkins, Syracuse) while others have improved (UCSD, Rochester, WashU, Rutgers, Stony Brook). The Schmidt/Chingos rankings reflect that, too. To my mind, placement and faculty citations are a better way to gauge a program's overall effectiveness than arbitrary rankings (read: US News).
