    UCSF

Just wanted to know if anyone has heard/interviewed with UCSF. Thanks!
  2. Has anybody had an interview with UCSF?
  3. Thanks ducksoup! That's a great find. nessadub.
  4. Thank you both, I will check them out!
  5. Does anyone know of any programs with a focus on aging and/or disability? Thanks!
  6. Hi, I'm a current masters in social work student. I think the MSW is usually considered a professional degree and not a stepping stone to the Sociology PhD. Also, check with the school you want to apply to and see if they think you need a sociology background. From what I hear, lots of sociology doctoral programs take people from related fields such as yours, including the top ranked schools. I considered Sociology, but with my interest and experience, Social Work is a better fit for me (as of today). Anyone in Sociology have a take on this?
  7. you can private message me if you want. I'm attending Berkeley.
  8. random question. does uw still require the gre for the msw program? thanks and congratulations! great school!
  9. Congratulations to the person who posted an admit in the results section for Albany's doctoral program. Would you be willing to tell us what your research focus is? This school has some interesting faculty (to me) and I would love to hear your impressions of the school and if you have made a decision yet. Thanks in advance for your help and thanks for posting your results.
  10. I'm at UC Berkeley and we are at some of the same placements as SF state and CSU East Bay. That said, I think people here are hoping that the reputation and alumni networking opportunities will be better at UC Berkeley. Who knows really?
  11. Thanks so much! I was one of those students who responded to the professors suggestions and did better as the semester progressed. Thanks for the encouragement you guys!
  12. My professor is really stingy with solid A's. How would I go about asking him or is it not worth it? Any tips? Also how early is too early to ask? I'm applying next Fall.
  13. I'm starting the PhD application process to apply next year. Is there anybody else out there like me?
  14. I graduated from Sonoma State and was accepted to UCLA. My verbal score was high, but quant was low. but, I also had a lot of work experience. I don't think you should settle for second best. With your initiative and willingness to work hard you can get in where you want and you will be bummed if you settle. Even if that means you have to take a year off and study for the GRE. You can pm me if you want. I am currently attending UC Berkeley.
  15. Regarding foodstamps: I'm studying as a masters in social work in CA. We were just informed at an agency visit that assets (property) are not counted if you have minor in the home. I think this is a new regulation. Definitely worth checking it out.
  16. coming to Berkeley Fall 2010! I'm going to be living in student family housing. Excited!!
  17. congrats Kobe! I just got back from a vist to the UW! It has a gorgeous new building with skylights and lockers for your books. All your classes will be held in the building. The building is across the street from the university so you get the best of both worlds. Right nearby are awesome restaurants and cafes and access to the sprawling campus. The faculty seem very bright and warm. What is your topic or interest in social work? Also you won't need to use your car because the city has a great bus system. I stayed at the university travelodge near the university village mall. It was cheap and easy access to the campus by bus. We walked the first day, but with a three year old on my back it proved to be too uphill. private message me if you want.
  18. I can say that being in a safe place as a woman has been very important to me. Especially if you are a student in your twenties, I think it is important to feel safe and accepted at the school and city where you are living. Having a fully funded offer feels very accepting to me...It sounds like you have financially supportive parents. I'd say if you have emotionally supportive family and friends you might try and stretch yourself with the big city. If you are prone to depression/anxiety or have doubts whatsoever I would go with the small school. mid to late twenties the emotional and physical shit tends to hit the fan. If you want to stir things up go to the big city and enjoy the ride. If you need to fortify your emotional foundation, go to the small school. The self-confidence of having a funded program will go a long way. For myself, coming from a rough background I had a lot of things I needed to heal. I took time at a small liberal arts college and 'found myself.' If I had been raised in a supportive environment I could have stretched myself and gone for a bigger pond. That said either choice will be a positive move in the right direction! Good luck and let us know what you decide!
  19. Finally made a decision! It feels as good as I thought it might. No fireworks, just a sense of calm and satisfaction. Now, I can focus on moving to Berkeley. Yay! My last day of work is April 15! I'm so excited to spend some time at home and relax with my family.
  20. adler. I was accepted by asking on the phone. I also got a letter in the post yesterday which was postmarked 3/22/2010.. Apparently the fellowship process is separate. The school nominates you for fellowship if you applied, but another entity (grad division?) chooses. Then they tell the school. The school is supposed to hear on 3/31/2010. I'm calling on that day to see if I was one of the lucky ones.
  21. Called this morning. I'm in too. I talked to admissions and they said fellowship info won't be available until 3/31/2010.
  22. omg! What great news! That is so exciting. I also applied for the fellowship. fingers crossed. thanks for posting!!
  23. I'm bumping this up. Has anyone gotten any letters? All quiet here. No info yet.
  24. Someone mentioned Bodega. If you are talking about Bodega, in Northern California, PM me. I am 37 married seven years and can tell you about the area.
  25. My husband and I moved to Europe in 2002, specifically London for 6 months. I was able to work through the BUNAC program. It was very interesting. It is totally doable. This was before our daughter. We traveled around Europe for a month on a under 30 bus trip. My fav part was the stop at Munich for the Octoberfest. Don't miss it! You will do fine!
