  1. Lol don't worry, my french is also tres terrible, so I'm hoping to brush up over the summer. I managed to order a coffee in French succesfully once, so that's a step I hope. Though, I'm also unsure if I'll be heading over in September or sometime in June/July to start early in the lab, but it does feel like it's coming up real soon though if it's the latter! I keep hearing how amazing it'll be being there for the summer though.
  2. Oh thanks for the link, I guess I didn't think to check other subforums. thank you and congrats I'm still not sure when I'm supposed to move, might also be the summer as opposed to september.
  3. So I'm 90% sure I'll be heading to Mcgill fall 2014 through the master's with IPN. Anyone else in the same boat of attending graduate school here soon if not for the same program? I'm surprised this thread has been dead for so long. Do all of these tips still apply today? It looks like rent is not as cheap as it used to be, understandably, but I feel like I might not be looking hard enough for good deals perhaps. My project takes place at the Douglas, so I've also considered living in Verdun, but I'm not sure if I'll be missing out on the Montreal experience if I do. Thoughts? Thanks!
  4. One of the schools I'm applying to has the system where basically your application is available to the professors to peruse, and they do most of the contact if you're not actively contacting professors yourself. I'm talking to 3 different POIs right now and just had a visit with two of them (I live in a different city) and had a Skype interview with the other. The takeaway from all of them was that they wanted me to think over my options and let the know if I'm still interested after having spoken to all three. I think I've settled on one, and now I don't know how to graciously let the other two professors know, or even how to let the one professor know I've decided on his lab. I just don't want to come off rude especially to the other professor I met with in person, since the professors do seem to know each other on top of everything.
  5. Gurr. Interview with prof seems to go great. He offers to give me a lab tour if I'm able to visit the school (I live pretty far away). Encourages me to email him all like "don't be shy!" with any questions and the like during the application process. And then one day, boom, radio silence. Last thing I told him was that I've been planning a visit, and when I would likely be able to go and if that would be alright with him, and he hasn't responded for two weeks. I sent him a follow-up email and still nothing. This hurts like a first date not calling for round two. I'm so tired of checking my email and the status page for my applications, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. kasdasdl;kagjaghaajkawkweiopag''s'lkjaskdjf!!!!!ghaskldfjeawpihfa pretty much sums up how I feel right now :$
  6. So a month ago, I spoke and had a lab tour with one potential professor that I would like to work with for my master's. At the end of the meeting, he told me to keep him updated during the application process and said I was one of 3 students he was considering for either 1 or 2 positions. I just finished up my application and am just waiting on one more prof to upload their LOR, so now I'm not really sure how to reinitiate contact. Do I contact him now just tell him I'm done my part of the application, and that I included him as a professor of interest in my statement of intent? Or do I wait until my application is fully complete (all reference letters in) or even wait until I hear the result from the department? Thanks for the help!
  7. It's kind of long, they suggested "around 2 pages". I'm just concerned some parts are too cheesy, and how to fix those. Anyways, here it is. Thanks in advance:
