    so a school who's offer of acceptance I declined weeks ago just sent me a letter in the mail saying that I was waitlisted and they regrettably can not offer me a spot in their program for the upcoming year....uhm....okay?

      Yeah I'm sure it does. I find it strange that this is the common practice for schools. I would think that by now they would have developed a generic "thanks for considering us and best of luck at your chosen school" letter for their purposes

      One of my grad mentors mentioned that a school has something to gain the more people they "reject", so maybe it's just a technicality for them.
