  1. Mine still says MFA
  2. I just called them. They didn't seem aware of it but also didn't let me change it. The person I talked to didn't seem to thing it was a big deal :|
  3. what is your concentration?
  4. Has anyone heard from Columbia college in Chicago?
  5. Mine is completely out of order too. Bummer, I guess?
  6. While I don't disagree that post bachs can be beneficial, I think residencies can also be incredibly eye opening experiences that can be extremely influencial as far as refining your practice or ideas. I was the only one (or one of the only ones) without an MFA at all of the residencies I have attended, and to see how people are working and talking about work post MFA has helped me redefine the way that I think about an MFA, learned what to expect from earning one, and most importantly, has awarded me the opportunity to talk to many people from many programs. After a recent residency this fall where I was able to talk to other artists about their experiences of certain programs, I completely changed my list of where I planned to apply. Since my only real experience in the art word (pre residencies) was my BFA program, I found it really interesting to see how artists were functioning in the "real world" outside of academics. You're right, though, I don't think residencies are the best place to get critical feedback on your work. However, if you really are open to change, they can teach you a lot and cause you to reflect on your own practice. For me, residencies have been more about observing and learning than actually making work.
  7. Interesting. So people who are accepted may or may not be contacted to interview?
  8. I might be wrong (someone correct me if I am), but I'm pretty sure they don't interview, and inform applicants of acceptance/denial in early April.
  9. Yes, someone a few pages back said they had received an interview request for SAIC photography.
  10. Just got one too! Just when I had given up hope...
  11. And you got an interview at RISD too?! Congrats, you're on a role!
  12. Congrats! How long ago did you receive that call?
  13. bard has already notified atleast photography
  14. I have a feeling that SAIC sculpture interview requests have already been sent out and just no one here knows about it...
  15. any interviews for SAIC sculpture?
  16. What link? I checked my application status but it just says submitted.
  17. what concentration?
  18. I had a professor that went to Cranbrook for sculpture in order to make kinetic sculpture and he loved it. He learned a lot about programming (he works almost exclusively with the arduino) and used their other high tech tools (such as laser cutter, 3d printer, etc) to design and cut his own gears and other mechanical parts. I know that the faculty of Cranbrook changes frequently, and I know that he went to study under a specific person that he had researched before hand, so I don't know if this story is very applicable to you, but he did really enjoy going there and, for what it's worth, is an amazing artist that is doing quite well at the moment.
  19. awesome, congratulations! that was fast- phone interview or in-person?
  20. That's only because you aren't changing the DPI the correct way. If you just open up "image size" and change it from 72 to 300, it has to shrink the actual size of the image in order to obtain that DPI number.
  21. Jacque knows what's up
  22. Hey guys- another quick question about VCU's application (since you guys were so helpful last time). When uploading images and providing image information on the supplemental materials page, one thing it asks for is "time" (in the same area it asks for size, media, year, etc.) Does anyone know what on earth this means?! Possibly time it took to complete? Also, does anyone know what size images they prefer? Couldn't find it anywhere on the site. Last thing, on the website it says you must provide an image list with your supplemental materials, even gives an example (basic PDF image list with details.) On the supplemental materials page, it does not provide a place to upload this list. I'm applying to sculpture incase that detail is helpful
  23. Yes!! So glad someone could help answer this question. So, basically, you submit your personal statement twice? Or just once in the first section of the application?
  24. Hey guys- I saw that some of you were having trouble with the VCU application. I'm having some trouble with this as well. I noticed that in the "first" application, the university portion of the application, there were essay questions asking you about why you were applying to grad school now and things of that nature. Is this where you put your personal statement? Since I haven't yet submitted that portion, I haven't gotten to the art-specific portion which I guess I will be prompted to complete next. Those essay questions just threw me off and I'm not sure if I should submit my personal statement there, or if it will ask for it in the second portion of the application. Any help is appreciated!
