  1. Exactly! ::raises coffee cup:: To next year!
  2. Major CONGRATS to everyone!
  3. Thanks, Sarab. Nope, that was my only option and I was encouraged to apply by my POI who I had worked with before on several studies and papers. One of my letter writers (a recently retired prof there) said they'd be crazy if they turned me down. But, oh well. We'll see what happens next. I'm looking forward to good news for the rest of you guys!!
  4. It's a no for me from PSU. Bummer.
  5. Nothing from PSU either. I got a text on Friday from a friend who's a current PhDC there saying "What's your news??" And of course I had none and I got all squirrelly that he knew something that I didn't and he wasn't telling me!!! He just said that he knew they were making decisions soon, but didn't know anything other than that. Gah!!! Frustrating!
  6. 3 acceptances already posted for today! Maybe this will be a week filled with good news for ALL!!
  7. I am not a linguist, but I am intensely interested in language. I speak a few, read a lot about languages and an anthro friend recommended that I read Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes: Life and Language in the Amazonian Jungle by Daniel Everett, Dean of Arts & Sciences and Linguistics Prof at Bentley Uni. It was fantastic. I highly recommend it as a fun, yet academic read.
  8. I have no additional advice, but I give great hugs. (((colorless)))
  9. I'm right there with you on PSU. I have a trip coming up in Mid March and I'm trying to tell myself I won't hear anything before that... Still torture.
  10. Please don't! You still have schools to hear from, any one of those could be a yes! And if it doesn't work out this year, you can always try again. Ask around, many of us have applied before. Keep that chin up!!
  11. Huge congrats!! So exciting!!
  12. Or the reverse could be true. I have so much to do with my 2 day jobs and I don't want to worry about any of it. Waiting for decisions takes up so much brain space!
  13. I sent all of them a hand written thank you card and a gift card for somewhere they like. Nothing huge, just a little thank you. I'm a few years removed from school, so it was a bit outside their normal letter writing to do this for me. And since it was near the holidays, I said my thank yous and happy holidays.
  14. 5 acceptances have been posted today! That's awesome for everyone out there. Congrats!!
  15. I like this! And it seems like a fun brain exercise in general. Yes... I'm a nerd. This thread is great, though. I am really liking all the thought provoking ideas.
  16. Here's an interesting point. I was just recently digging through data from a few Big 10 schools (the conference) and found that most Anthro MA graduates make more at entry level than PhDs do. I'm trying to wrap my brain around why this would be and Post Docs and Adjuncts were the only things I could think of. I'm guessing a MAs typically have a career path in mind, whereas PhDs have to take what they can, given the stagnation of the Academic job market. I would say, though, if you're funded for a PhD, that's the way to go. Education should only make you more marketable. And particularly, if you have a clear career path ahead.
  17. And may the odds be ever in your favor!
  18. Someone posted a PSU rejection... Sorry Anyone want to claim it? I'm wondering if you reached out to contact them or did they email you? *bites nails*
  19. Look away! Don't click it!!
  20. I've been asked questions about plans after PhD, realistic goals (post doc, teaching...) and mobility, where I'd be willing to move/live. That said, my research goals are very concise and a very good fit for the professor I want to work with, so those were basically a nonissue.
  21. I think it makes results really ambiguous because when you see that someone has gotten a decision, it could be relevant, but perhaps not.
  22. Thanks! Right back at ya, Sarab!
  23. I got the same impression for PSU. Right now, I just want to puke. The waiting is killing my stomach.
  24. Yep, just one school. I know exactly what I want to study and with which adviser. Fingers so very crossed.
  25. Love it! Seems like any news is taking FOREVER! Then again, it's February... we have to hear eventually, right? Right??
