  1. Honestly apply to as many schools as you can. Ignore what the people say here about you can get in here can't get in there. You're gpa only gets you past the cut off as does GRE. It's all about the recs and SOP. Without knowing the content of those any estimation is probably meaningless. I would urge you to keep UChicago no matter what as I'm a huge fan of the program and of what is being done here. Feel free to PM with questions.
  2. Hey I see U Chicago. I'm guessing that means you applied to IME right? If you have any questions about the program or if you end up visiting hit me up, I'd love to talk to you in person, on the phone, via email w/e about the program. I'm a first year graduate student here and very excited about what's happening around me.
  3. Yup I'll be at twin cities this week. I'm coming from NCSU.
  4. Got a phone call from Twin Cities yesterday and got accepted, got my formal email last night so I would expect those to start arriving soon.
  5. I go to NCSU currently for undergrad. I don't think they're near done with applications. A lot of the guys on the panel were also responsible for matching grad students and assigning TA and that only got completed a week ago.
  6. I'm strongly considering as well. I applied to Twin Cities, MIT, Caltech, Berkely, Princeton, UMich, and of course UChicago. Out of those MIT and UChicago are my top choices. Allow me to explain. UChicago has a reputation for poaching the best professors. Dr. Tirrell who founded the institute is no exception. He was the dean of engineering at UCSB. On top of this all of their professors are not new researchers. They all are well established and well known. My undergrad mentor specifically recommended the program to me as one of the best programs. Sure their is some risk as it is a brand new department but that also has quite a few benefits. All the labs are brand new, everything is well funded, they are offering very good stipends etc. There is also something very appealing about the idea of being a founding member of what could be one of the top programs. I'm visiting for sure. If you want to talk more feel free to pm me and I can give you my email.
  7. I just heard back from UChicagos Institute for Macromolecular Engineering and got in. Anyone else apply there?
