  1. I also received my acceptance letter to Florida State that same day. I applied for the musicology masters program there. Have you received any correspondence/admission confirmation from the general FSU Office of Admissions yet? I have yet to hear from them. I was told that I am on a waiting list for an assistantship, which I suspect may be a result of not being fully admitted by the Office of Admissions. It was my understanding that you cannot be considered for funding until you are fully admitted.

Hi! I have only heard from the School of Music at this point. The letter said that information would be coming soon concerning funding. I have not heard about that nor have I heard from the graduate school. Congratulations on your acceptance to Florida State! Maybe we will see each other there in the Fall.

  2. Received a rejection email from UCLA last night or this morning. I came home from work and had an email from Southern California. They have waitlisted me, but they seemed interested in my work and want to offer me a fellowship. The email said they were waiting to hear from other applicants. USC has a pretty and cozy campus, and I enjoyed the days I spent in Los Angeles while working on my thesis.

I hope everyone is hearing good news this week.

  3. Hello. I took three years between my undergrad and grad work. I used the time to get some work experience while also doing independent research. I also took the GRE a couple of times to get the score that I wanted. IMO, it is okay to wait for grad school until you believe you are ready. Email some professors, and get an idea for the social environment of institutions you are considering. Maybe some of the professors will even help you with some of your example documents. Good luck!

  4. Way to go, Eisler! I'm curious, what are your research interests? Florida sounds lovely -- especially this time of year. Congrats!

Thanks! I am currently living in Florida, and the weather is very nice at the moment.

I'm interested in American music of the early twentieth century, exile studies, jazz, and cultures of the American South. My Master's thesis was on Hanns Eisler and the years he was in the United States. In the future I would like to look at Wallingford Riegger, music and the WPA, and the jazz history of Mobile, Alabama.

  5. I just received my rejection from NYU via email. Funny, I am presenting a paper there at the Music and the Moving Image conference in May. Hopefully there will be some better news coming along soon!!

  6. Hi tutupack4:

When I check my Application status for UCLA, it still just reads "submitted." Is there a separate status page (apart from the page where I built and submitted my application) that I am not aware of? Thanks!

  7. I received my first notification via email today. I was waitlisted at Washington University in St. Louis. Ah, well. St. Louis would have been a great place to spend half a decade. Big congratulations to the two posters who were accepted to WUSTL!

  8. Congratulations to the person accepted to UMKC, DMA Music Composition. I auditioned at UMKC when I was considering Master's programs. It's a beautiful campus -- a lot of walking uphill, though. The faculty I met were very nice.

  9. Hi everyone, new member here. I heard from Berkeley today for Ethno, and I'm ecstatic to say I was accepted! A few more Ethno applicants were also notified, according to the latest postings on the Results Forum. I haven't seen any news for Comp or History & Literature at Cal, though. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!

    Congratulations!! That is good news.

  10. Hello all:

I just wanted to leave a quick message and send greetings, and wish everyone the best of luck.

I am currently waiting to hear from the seven schools I applied to. I am not in a nervous state yet, but I imagine I may be come mid to late February.

    All best!
