  1. Another ranking list (2010): http://www.utexas.edu/cola/orgs/lacs/_files/pdf/GS%20Handbooks/CLA%20Handbook.pdf
  2. If you hate this post, you certainly aren't obliged to respond! This is the only overall ranking list that I'm aware of, but it's a bit out-of-date: http://chronicle.com/article/NRC-Rankings-Overview-/124716/. If you'd like to rank schools based upon a certain subfield, please do! I'd love to read people's perceptions of various programs. I thought this might be a helpful thread for folks as they are getting interviews and considering their options. Someone made a similar thread several years ago, and I found it interesting. Not trying to ruffle feathers or give offense! Pax.
  3. Anyone else get wait listed at Penn? Bummer....
  4. I hope it works out with your schedule, amice. Best of luck to you, and again, my sincere congratulations!
  5. Congratulations!! I think if you are invited to visit, you should make every effort to go. Of course, if it's not possible, that's more than understandable. I have no idea if they will hold it against you. Missing the visit per se probably isn't an issue, but they might take it as a sign that you're not super interested in them. My advice is to go if at all possible if you are serious about them.
  6. How would you rank the current Classics/Classical Studies programs in the USA? Of course, this is a bit of a silly question, since this list probably varies widely depending on which facet of the field you choose to prioritize. But that aside, which programs do you perceive to be the best as of date?
  7. Anyone care to claim Yale and Princeton interviews?
  8. σύμβολον ἤδη μοι μέγ᾽ ὀνήσιμον: οὐκ ὀνοτάζω.

    1. spectastic

  9. What are you guys reading right now? I've been reading a bit of Livy, Catullus, and Homer. Not to mention all of the scholarship that I referenced in my personal statement and writing sample….
  10. Oh wow! Well, at least it was a half-compliment!
  11. Those of you who've been invited to interview -- how are you feeling? I'm nervous!
  12. Anyone care to claim Berkeley posts in the results section?
  13. You're so generous, Fucifera, taking one for the team. I think I would read and keep it ALL to myself!
  14. Cool idea. Wish we had: 1.) Ennius' Epicharmus 2.) Aeschylus' Achilleis 3.) Lucilius' Satires (Ovid's Medea is high on my list, but I'm omitting it since someone else mentioned it already) I'm going to echo you, janeiro! Ok, I give up. I couldn't wish anything to go, not even if they wrote about architecture or military strategy. Congrats to everyone who has heard good news! All the best for the coming weeks!
  15. Tell us how you REALLY feel.
  16. Definitely a good sign -- congrats! And good luck with Stanford!
  17. I'm curious which ancient author is your LEAST favorite, and why. Mine is Longus. Daphnis and Chloe is just so…. cloying (IMHO). No offense if ancient novel is your thing!
  18. I wonder how many dissertations have been written on cheese in the ancient world (not to be confused with cheesy dissertations). Sounds like a gaping hole in the scholarship, if you ask me.
  19. I have to say, in my experience, it usually feels more like Tacitus punching me!
  20. I've been watching way too much TV over the holiday break. Gotta love me some Breaking Bad!
  21. Thanks for this post!
  22. Hi everyone! I'm a philologist. I'm interested in ancient music and mathematics. I don't identify as a Latinist or Hellenist -- I love both too much to choose!
