rejected as well at Michigan!

Rejected at Cornell. So, so far I'm rejected From Duke and Cornell, but accepted to Carnegie Mellon. Honestly, I've been pretty worry free after finally getting in to CMU though. I would be very happy attending there!

For those who received NC State rejections today: How did they notify you?

Hadley seems like a very helpful guy! Just based on how he's randomly helping with things like swirl, etc.. I knew what I know now about the application process. I spent so much time researching departments, reading professors work, and trying to construct emails that made me seem somewhat intelligent. Everything I read before said these were the most important steps, but it seems that's not the case for statistics, as mathematical ability can be more objctively viewed through GRE scores and grades.

They sent out an initial round of rejections awhile back. So I think you have made it through the first wave that is a good sign. Also, it seems you are foreign? Since I am domestic, maybe they do the two pools differently. All speculation though.

I didn't apply to Wharton I just saw on the results tab In general, if they send an e-mail asking you to check website, you can be pretty sure it's a rejection. (That's what Duke did)

NICE!!!! Congrats! all of the hard work has payed off. I do wonder why we would not have received rejections from some of the schools that have already accepted though. (Harvard, Mich, etc.) since Duke sent out a bunch of rejections earlier

Yeah that would kind of make sense for their perspective. I'm wondering if some schools are waiting to see if I get the NSF fellowship or not. Either way, I think we should not be discouraged by not getting into a top 15 school, and should accept that our application credentials were not top tier. As long as we can get a foot in the door somewhere (and it looks like we've taken all steps necessary), we will have accomplished a lot. If not, from what cyberwulf said, our hand has already been dealt before starting the application process, and since we did the best that we could, there's nothing to really regret.

Is it common for schools to send out acceptances, wait to see how many people commit, and based off that- send out a next round?

Damn, yeah I thought Michigan was my best bet after talking to one of the professors and having a quite positive response. At least a lot of others got their first acceptances!

echlori- damn, that is the worst. It shows pretty great character that you didn't get flustered and you're right back at it again this year. But yeah, i think everyone who wants to get in a PHD program and passes a certain threshold should get in somewhere. Especially given the costs of applying, not to mention how stressful it is.

Feel your pain man. I wonder if universities collaborate, it would be nice if they made sure everyone qualified enough got in at least one place (if they apply to ten)

Hell yeah, great calls. I'm probably going to start working on this after work. I feel kind of dumb for not using the entire month of january lol, But after finishing the first round of apps I wa sjust so exhausted

Funkoverload- I'm sorry to hear this. Stat applicant and I are putting out some last minute apps in fear of not getting rejected everywhere. Stat Applicant- Me too. Great call on FSU yoo, I didn't think about this. Are you getting your REC'S turned in as well? Or just the app, and rec's to follow sometime this week?

Ray- Have you mailed FLA at all? That app is due tomorrow!!!
