Right, applied ethics falls under the broader heading of moral philosophy. Doing ethics perhaps has strengthened her considerateness. Yes, say thanks to her for me too.
-
She is so considerate! Folks on the wait lists will surely appreciate her doing so. I bet she is a *moral* philosopher.
-
Sorry to hear this, and thanks for the info. But why did they not send out rejections to avoid incoming inquiries?
-
I did not apply to this school, but I want to thank you for being so nice. Obviously it will help those who are on the wait list!
-
Hi you guys who received multiple offers, time to move on to withdraw from the wait lists and deny the offers that you will not take? Poor folks are waiting to get off waitlists in desperation. This application season is almost over. You may get a drink from me .
-
Thanks for all you guys who denied the acceptances that you will not take in a timely manner. Hope everyone would do this to help out those poor souls and help to alleviate the April 15 disaster.
-
When will a PhD student typically begin to choose her advisor? At the end of the first year, second year, or other time?
-
Thanks. I might email them, though I am not sure if such inquiries would be welcome. (Duke sent out acceptances and wait lists a quite while ago, and I do not understand why the rejections are so slow to reach us. )
-
Yes, but it would be better to get bad news early than holding up delusional hope. Thanks for the explanation. I am so sorry I cannot help as I do not know much about the Iowa's program either. If I were you, I would probably choose Rochester over Iowa too, because Rochester is higher PGR ranked, and is strong in epistemology and ethics. I bet Rochester has a better placement than Iowa too. So it is very reasonable to choose it over Iowa. Best of luck

Thanks, philosophe. Some schools are so slow in notifying applicants their decisions. it seems they do not bother to send out rejections until after April 15. That is disappointing. By the way, you seem to choose Rochester over Iowa for PhD study. I am not sure about your justification of the choice. But best of luck.

If a school (such as Berkeley and Duke) has sent out the acceptances and wait lists, but one did not receive anything (acceptance, wait list, or rejection), could this mean that he or she be on the unannounced extended wait list? Or it means a rejection that is yet to be sent out? The uncertainty is killing me.

It is a really awesome paper, and this explains why it should not be surprised you got in everywhere. It would be a very difficult choice between NYU and Harvard. NYU is the top philosophy program, but Harvard is much stronger (arguably the strongest) in prestige. Most of people do not have this blessing of trouble

Thanks for the reply, wakeupright. Interviews always make me stressed out too, and I am not good at them. You should have applied to some American programs, though getting a PhD in the US takes much more years than in the UK. But I tend to believe there is still some hope for Oxford. Best of luck to you.
-
So sorry to hear this. What questions did they ask and how did the interview go so badly that costed your chances of getting in, if you do not mind my asking? Thanks
-
Oh, damn it. I meant to say someone claimed Columbia *waitlist", not rejection. So sorry...
-
This made me chuckle, especially when you imagine they were four profs.
-
People claimed the rejection in the rejection thread. So the rejections seem legitimate.

OK. I will post a stupid question for you guys because I am from Mars and cannot figure out how to survive on the Earth. The question is: if I were to attend graduate school (so far no graduate school on the Earth has offered me admission, but I hope one will), what would be the easiest and fastest ways to keep myself updated on every piece of information associated with the courses, classes, and the school? (Twitter, Facebook, website, or something else on the cell phone or the laptop?) Thanks for your help; I am so ignorant about the stuff on the Earth, and your advice would enlarge my chances of survival.

Firstly, congrats to Ian on the UW-M wait list and to all you guys on the acceptances and waitlists! Second, I am sorry for the half-joking request on DHumedorminates to turn down other offers if he or she wants to get into Harvard. When I said this, I was partly meaning to say that Harvard is so high that an immediate decision can be easily made regarding its offer. But my wording was misleading. I did not mean to press and entirely agree that it is reasonable to sit on to multiple offers until a later date. I hope DHumedorminates did not feel the pressure (By the way, are there any Humean scholars in Harvard philosophy department? I know there are many Kantians working there, but am not sure if there are any Humeans. )
-
Thanks, DHume. Deal. It is reasonable to hang onto the Yale wait list for a while, though it is not very likely to get off a highly-ranked program like Yale. But it is interesting to see if one could get off it.
-
Congratulations!!! I think you will take the Harvard offer of admission. So, would you please turn down the acceptances and waitlists at all other schools as soon as possible to help out other applicants? Thanks.
-
Thanks for the response. So Duke has a *short* waitlist. My hope that I will be on the extended waitlist is delusional. I think the rejection notification will arrive at some time.
-
Congratulations to zblaesi and Hilbert's timequake.
-
Thanks for the info, Gnothi. I do hope Duke is operating with an unannounced waitlist, at least it would give me some hope. According to TGC, the initial acceptances were received on January 27. When did you receive the notification of acceptance?
-
But it has sent out the waitlist, according to TGC results page. So it seems not operating an unannounced waitlist. I think the massive rejections are on the way. I am so disappointed.
