  1. Yeah for sure I am! Just makes my choice a little more difficult, depending on certain circumstances..
  2. Yeah I saw that on the results page. The department also told me that they're currently sorting out their funding too, and that if we get any we should hear soon. Departmental studentships and so on I think. Fingers crossed also for college funding for all!
  3. As for funding, I haven't heard much yet. The department has told me that they're currently sorting out funding, but also some of the colleges have some funding that they give out too, which I would find about when I'm accepted to a college. Not a whole lot of people get funding, so I might have to self-fund, although obv I'd rather get some funding, as it's quite expensive. As far as the comparison to LSE, lots of people seem to say it's better than LSE (i.e. the Brits @ The Student Room all seem to say this), and that the MPhil at Oxford is great at placing people into top PhD programs afterwards, while LSE is also good but a bit more mixed. Did Oxford say when they'd let you know if you're accepted off the waitlist? Hopefully you get it!
  4. heyhey I've been accepted and I'm definitely going. As for any advice about the MPhil, obviously I'm biased, but I've great things about placement and about the quality of the program, so if you end up getting an offer, I'd say it's seriously worth considering. Congrats on all of your other acceptances!

I haven't heard anything from the colleges yet, although my department told me that if I'm accepted at my first choice, I should hear by 30 April. I said my first choice was Nuffield, second choice Balliol. How about you? Heard anything? What were your choices? Which one did you stay in when you were at Oxford before?

heyhey thanks so much for sharing your perspective. I am going to Oxford in the fall, I was just wondering what it's like to live there. Your info on the cost of housing is super helpful, so thanks. Are you an international student? I am. Do you know which banks / cell phone companies are good? I've looked a bit online, and it seems like the co-operative bank has a good student account, and that orange mobile has decent mobile phone plans (then again, I'm Canadian and we for some reason have the most expensive cell phone regime in the world, so anything looks cheap to me).

Hey all. Just wondering if there's anyone out there who's gone to Oxford or Oxford Brookes and can say a bit about what it's like to live in Oxford. Is it just as expensive as London? How is the bus/train to and from London? Is there lots to do? On the whole, is housing cheaper than London? Any info anyone can provide would be great..
  8. accepted at Oxford political theory!!!@#%$#@$!
  9. Provided I'm accepted at Oxford (hopefully!), I'll be in a similar situation, except I'm in theory. I'm also not from the UK, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, but here are my perceptions nonetheless: 1. It seems that at least two of the advantages Oxford has are: 1) the style of education, Oxford's tutorial system seems like it's really geared towards that close relationship that you say you're looking for, plus it seems like it's just good pedagogically; and 2) Oxford seems to have a very robust methodological component to its programs which (I don't know about you) I personally find very appealing. 2. LSE's advantages seem to be a bit more in the 'life' category i.e. living in London, and all the access/perks that that entails (really cool lectures from visiting world leaders?, cultural life, etc). However, if you're interested in possibly becoming a practitioner, it seems like LSE prides itself on placing people in cool jobs, whether it be in business or human rights NGOs, or whatever. 3. I wouldn't worry so much about the length of the two programs, as if you go on to the doctorate, the total length of the programs will be the same: Oxford (2-year MPhil + 2-year DPhil), LSE (1-year MSc + 3-year PhD). 4 years altogether, either way. In any case, that's a really awesome decision to have to make, as these two schools are suuuuuuuuper amaz. Congratulations.
  10. GoCardinal - Congrats on getting into Oxford!! Although it sounds like you have some great offers from other places as well. Did you hear from Oxford by post? Today?
  11. has *anyone* else at all heard from Toronto in any way, other than that one single acceptance on the results thread? the results page for tdot just seems a little scantily-clad to me.. i tried emailing carolynn branton to ask her about the department's decisions, but i guess she's pretty busy. oy.
  12. ooooooh wait a sec. i hadn't seen that result. hmmm.. seems fake. there's no others, and it's suuuuuuuuper early for them.
  13. nothing from tdot. probably next week at the earliest, i'd say.
  14. just accepted at LSE HOOOORAY. i know we always talk about us schools here, but the uk schools are great too eh. hooooray!
  15. I've had the same experience with my Columbia app status form as Rossiya. However, about a week before they released the decisions I had emailed the GSAS to inquire about those then-blank fields, and they told me that my application was complete, was at the department for review, and had not been held up at any time in the review process. So I think they probably just have WAY too many applicants to be totally on top of the online profile updating.
  16. Yeah I'm having a similar experience on both counts: a) reading Habermas closely these days is collapsing me into metaphysics and epistemology more so than before, and hence into phil. territory and here's hoping for full clarendons for both of us!
  17. Which dept. would you choose if you also got into poli sci?
  18. Last year I applied to both UofT and York for the MA programs. In the case of UofT, I was notified in late March. In the case of York, about mid-March.
  19. Thanks. Yeah I am an international student too. Well.. 'international'. I'm Canadian so I suppose it's slightly less number-punching to call me. lol. Oh well. One can hope.
  20. Have *any* of the Princeton admits received the glorious 'heads up' phone call from the DGS? I received a mysterious blocked number call last night. I wasn't able to get to it in time, and there was no voicemail. So I'd be interested to know if/when anyone else got a call..
