  1. Not yet Easy-Joy. But I will! Spoke to Chang Shi, a chinese first year student. Very very helpful.
  2. I did ask and got a reply within a few minutes - an emphatic NO. Terribly sad.
  3. https://www.facebook.com/groups/635065386559721/ FB group link for the Class of 2016 - MA HRIR program!!
  4. So my top choice did not provide me funding. I wrote to them some 2 weeks back requesting some sort of aid, but they replied saying aid is usually given along with the acceptance letter and if not you can join and then apply for TAs and stuff. Of course that will be a gamble, considering that the total cost is $110K for 2 years. I do have other offers with aid, but I would love to go to my top choice. My question here is, should I ask them again for possible aid? Does an Ivy League school make sense for an international student to pay $100K+, assuming (Thats a big assumption...) that it may be possible to get a loan? The next ranked school offered me their program at 40K lesser fee! The 3rd ranked program is willing to give me even more aid!
  5. Absolutely gutted :( The only scholarship that could have funded me to my top choice rejects me...

  6. Ah well here it is. Same situation, though havent yet declined my top choice. But will most probably will. If only they gave me some funding. My second choice is some 40K cheaper at the minimum!!
  7. I would think, that it depends on your long term goals. IF you would use the degree to do research for the benefit of your family firm and maybe someday head it, University Z would be the best option. BUT if you want to have an option to quit your family business and go ahead on your own, University X & Y makes sense. But for that you would maybe lose 2 years of money. That said, it depends on how badly you want to have that OPTION to quit family business. If you like what you do with your business and you really have grand plans ahead, University Z is a no brainer.
  8. Oops... I saw this after I posted!! Cool, will have a look.... Thanks @ Archer Sterling!!
  9. Oh and did any of you guys check the "10 cool things abt UMN" video?? Anyone thrilled about the Tate telescope like me??
  10. Hmm... I did check out GrandMarc apartments... looks neat. But no detail on rents etc. What I am looking at is, I do not know how much to budget for a decent living. I am not keen on in campus living. So, I need to give my banks an estimate on rents, food, books and all. I have an estimate on the uni website, but I would rather hear it from people who know MN. People say that off campus is generally cheaper and better but you need to look around. I am fine with it. But I would really appreciate if someone can post an estimate for a single guy in a shared accom or a non shared single room in a decent place.
  11. Thanks @ ArcherSterling @ Katia_Chan @ Limmerz I was a little confused initially cuz on of my friends in Minnesota said there are many unis that are called university of Minnesota. It is understandable cuz we also have a similar system of unis in my country that are treated as separate based on their location, faculty, departmental strength, pedigree etc. even though they share the same name. Can anyone help me with choosing accom? As in I am an international student, and I have absolutely no clue where to look or how. How much should I budget for accom, food, inet + miscellaneous per month? (Living expenses) I would preferably look for something cheap but safe and neat and maybe around students nearby...
  12. Can anyone help me with a little understanding of the University of Minnesota?? I thought Duluth, Crookston, Twin Cities are different campuses of the same uni. But US news ranks them independently. How is that?? And the Carlson School is part of which campus??
  13. Cool!! Will look to see the video soon! Did you meet other incoming HRIR students?? How is the feeling with them? I have been offered a small fellowship. Not sure it is enough for me to afford (Even loans are difficult in my country without showing collateral.. ) But still its one step in the right direction. Will join Minnesota all other things being equal. Hoping to meet you guys in a few months!
