  1. Now I finally got my first acceptance, I feel ambivalent about leaving my current institution. I knew it was coming, but staying there was still my plan D. I have had an amazing time at my institution. I know everyone, everyone knows me. I am a bit afraid that 'starting over' it would be hard to develop these 'supercurricular' stuff like TAs and RAs. Rationally, I know that I am taking a huge step on the ladder. I know that this course is a 200% better fit. But still, I am leaving awesome things behind. The realization needs to sink in a bit and I hope that this new course/uni/country is just as awesome. Anyone else feeling the same way?
  2. I got my admit today. Maybe I'll see you in Zurich in September.
  3. Got my first admit for ETH Zurich today! So happy. Now I can relax while I wait for number two and three.
  4. To those with admits/responses: has your status on the website changed?
  5. Oh dear, now you got me started! I had an grad office question the completeness of my transcripts the evening of the start of the Christmas holidays. I answered the question instantly, got a response on Jan 7 saying that I had to provide proof at Jan 8 the latest to be considered for admittance. Which I managed to do thanks to some very awesome people at my uni, but seriously I was so done with that school. Mind you that this was before my application was even considered, and there was nothing wrong with my application in the first place! In your case, I think that they are at least interested. Obviously, you have survived the GRE/GPA cut.
  6. @ 4: This is what they ask you to let them know! Usually, being waitlisted means that you are a good candidate and they will come back to you if they cannot fill all positions with better applicants.
  7. By the way, has your status on the website changed?
  8. @ your edit: In the results search you can see that there is a formal waitlist as well. Apparently, they believe that they will 'need' another couple of admits after getting replies on their first round of admits (which is where we are now). Keep in mind that as soon as people are waitlisted they are likely to accept other offers, especially since not many people tend to decline MIT offers. If you would notify applicants of being waitlisted too early you might end up with third, fourth or fifth choice applicants rather than second choice. I can also imagine there are probably a couple of those faculty members who linger on making decisions. The process is taking time because not all final decisions have been officially made, not because updating a website is such a big deal. I just hope the wait is officially over tomorrow.
  9. I hope you will get it. I didn't apply for it since I did not have a research proposal. What if you don't get it?
  10. I haven't heard from ETH yet. I will probably be the last to hear, as the grad office forwarded my application really late (Jan 8) because they thought there was something wrong with my transcripts. I am not sure about accepting it yet. You have quite some applications still pending as well. Was ETH your first choice?
  11. I was afraid so. Thanks for the update.
  12. Has anyone been accepted to ETH Zürich? If so, would you mind sharing when your application was forwarded to the department? Mine was a bit late (Jan 8), because the grad office thought my transcripts were incomplete.
  13. I am not sure about graduate courses, but I know for a fact that for undergrad significantly more people are interviewed than admitted. Check out the statistics: http://www.ox.ac.uk/about_the_university/facts_and_figures/undergraduate_admissions_statistics/courses.html
  14. I applied to ETH as well. They have until March 15 to respond to the December deadline applications. Because of the earlier impression I got from ETH I expect them to stick rather closely to that time frame. If we are lucky, it may be a bit earlier. I am not sure about Imperial. I have applied to Oxford for the January deadline and have been told that admissions will be sent out from late March onwards. However, I have no idea how accurate this time frame is. When was Imperial's deadline?
  15. Good point. I strongly suspect all first-choice admissions have been sent out last week.
  16. Why would they wait with updating the website if they finished January 31? Perhaps if they wanted to send everyone acceptance mails first. Still, why would they wait with updating the website if they have sent all acceptances out? Some people had interviews after January 31. Either way it does not make sense.
  17. I know. Due to the Bologna process most European three year Bachelors are of a comparable level. That does not change the fact that an Indian three year degree is not equivalent to a Bologna Bachelor. It is no different than the four year US degree that is equivalent to the European three year Bologna degree. Likewise a four year Indian degree is equivalent to a three year Bologna degree.
  18. I am not sure how you got the idea that Europe only requires a three year Bachelor? I cite from a random Dutch technical university the requirements of an Indian degree:
  19. I believe the dates show up as GMT (or is it just me?). That means that the results that show up as the 6th were posted last night GMT, late 5th or early 6th at the east coast, since I saw them this morning (GMT, still night at the east coast). Curious how there have not been any admits today. Let's hope they start after lunch.
  20. It is really too bad that accepts and rejects are not notified in the same way at the same time. That would save a lot of unnecessary worrying and speculation.
  21. I strongly suspect that if we haven't heard by the end of this week rejection (or waitlisting and probably subsequent rejection) is probable. Of course, we knew even before applying that rejection was probable.
  22. Wow, many thanks for he heads-up. I wish you all the best for the final wait...
  23. I just saw the first admit appear in the results search. EDIT: I was wrong, that was an informal one.
  24. What makes you think you are more likely to be admitted in Europe? Just trying to follow your train of thoughts, here.
  25. Yeah, all the best to each of you!
