  1. I'd imagine so - my POI emailed me and he's obviously a prehistorian!
  2. Interesting - I guess the difference is due to US vs international - I've had no word as to who i'd speak to, simply them asking whether I want to go, or do a skype interview instead. Classical stuff is cool, although I'm very interdisciplinary - I don't like the division between Classical and Prehistoric (or history and archaeology for that matter) - for me the bottom line is that whatever period of antiquity you study, you need to know Latn/Greek and understand how your chosen period relates into others.
  3. I got a similar offer - they offered me up to $500 towards flights, although that may not be enough since I'm international, so they've said that if I can't make it we can do a skype interview. I asked the person who sent the email which he felt was more beneficial in terms of securing an admission, and he said much the same - that attendance at the weekend would not make a difference...it's a difficult one. What's your area of interest? Are you another bronze age person? There's too few of us...
  4. The archaeological cynic in me roils. If only they'd found something actually useful, like missing Livy.
  5. I spoke with someone from UT Austin last night on the phone. Apparently they will be emailing people on the shortlist tomorrow. I do not know if this is the whole of classics or just the archaeology part.
  6. I emailed my POI, who says there will be campus visit invites for interviews, and unofficially told me that I've got one. So there is more to come from UT Austin I think.
  7. Can someone more familiar with the US system advise me - I note there is an acceptance for UT Austin on the site - should I therefore discount that from my list? Or are admissions done over several days...
  8. Ha, King's for both BA and MPhil - what about you?
  9. Perhaps. I'm much more of an archaeologist than a philologist, so need to sharpen up on Linear B...I'm interested in politics and ideology in the Late Bronze Age. You're right - applied to Texas, Cincinnati because of their strengths in that. Also applied to AAMW at Penn and AHMA at Berkeley and the Joukowsky Institute at Brown, although complete lack of fieldwork rather knocks me out for those...I got Cornell and Michigan on the list as well, Toronto and Columbia. I doubt anywhere will be interested, although I may have a chance at Toronto as they apparently have a bias in favour of Canadians, and I guess that dual nationality has to come in handy somewhere. I just hope my marks (particularly the fact that at both Ox and Cam only the final year matters) comes across! We'll see, but expecting straight rejections. I have Oxford Cambridge Sheffield and Nottingham to consider over this side however...
  10. Having lurked I shall come into the light. I'm after PhDs in Classical Archaeology, although I'm actually interested in the Aegean Bronze Age. I have latin from 8 (16 years) and Greek from 13 (10 years). I'm an international applicant, and did my BA and Masters at Cambridge in the UK, where they don't have a GPA, but I got a 1st Class in my BA and 'High Pass' in my Master's (like a merit etc). I'm not convinced I'll get anywhere though, as apart from French I have no modern languages, and very limited fieldwork experience (although I have already done a pure research masters so maybe that will count in my favour)>
