I emailed Harvey Young and got a message saying that while they were still making decisions, he could report that I wasn't on their short-list. Took that as a solid sign that I should move on with the others. So...decision time!
Anyone hear anything further from Northwestern (the Interdisciplinary PhD)? I emailed them almost a week ago, but haven't heard anything back. Considering calling, since they're the only ones I'm waiting on before making a decision, but don't want to pester them too much, and frankly suspect it's a rejection. Would just like to know for certain.
I think a lot of it depends on the program. I'm currently in a position to negotiate offers with one of my programs, but it's because of the context: the department decided to nominate me for a campus fellowship, which means that they now have a vested interest in my attendance, and after the nomination, they specifically asked me to let them know if I have offers from other schools, and how they compare.
UC Berkeley is quite a ways from LA, as far as a commute is concerned, but if it fits the bill in terms of distance then you might consider UC Santa Barbara, as well.
I applied, but haven't heard back, yet. Think, from past results, that they post a little later, maybe even in March. Did you apply to the Interdisciplinary PhD program?
Thanks! It's a Skype interview, which should be interesting--from what I can tell, there'll be more than one person on their end. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Just recently joined the site, as well, and wanted to jump in (applying for MA/PhD track programs for the 2014 cycle). Applied to UCSB, Berkeley, Brown, Northwestern and Pittsburgh. Have a Skype interview (I'm an international, though my BA is from the US) with UCSB this week.
