Great topic! Hi everyone, my name is Sweta (it's like sweater just with an 'uhhh' instead of the 'errrr') I'm 23 and am currently a preschool teacher. I did my bachelors at Seton Hall University. While teaching is really rewarding, I wanted to do more and so I decided to go into speech pathology I wanted to go into speech earlier but decided on finishing my bachelors and going back to school if it was still something I wanted. I've worked a lot with children and adults with special needs over the years before I started teaching and have done a lot of volunteer work at a nursing home on abroad in India so that's where a lot of my passion for going into SLP stems from. Besides all this, I spend a lot of time reading, painting, or watching stuff on netflix to keep myself from going crazy while waiting for replies! It's so nice having this forum to let yourself know you're not the only one that's on the brink of losing your mind haha. Good luck to everyone!

Welcome! I didn't know about this site until after I finished all my applications too! I'm guessing since Montclair's deadline just passed a few days ago, it'll be a few weeks until they send out some decisions. And I totally agree with you on the waiting bit...every email I get about scholarship opportunities or anything else from any one of the schools I've applied to makes my heart leap up into my throat!

Ahh congrats to everyone hearing back!

Application Anxiety Thread
Ssen replied to autismadvocate's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I know how you feel! But one of my professors always used to say that no reply is still good; means you're still in the running! Good luck to you guys, I'm sure you'll hear back soon and hopefully with good news! -
Got my rejection from Hunter too
-
I got this too!

That's great! Good luck!! You'll probably hear more feedback in March so I wouldn't worry too much. One of the professors I had always said "not hearing anything back isn't a bad thing-means you haven't been rejected and you're somewhat of a candidate!"

SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD
Ssen replied to twinguy7's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My dream is to get in somewhere, anywhere! My hope is to get into Seton Hall (did my undergrad there so it's familiar grounds) or NYU (If I have to move for school, I'd love to be in the city) My guess is I might get wait listed or not get into a school (I don't have great stats compared to a lot of other applicants ) -
Nope, not yet :/ but thanks for making this thread!
-
Oh and congrats to everyone getting accepted!! This wait is agonizing :/

I just read your "Lurking the SLP boards for my husband, the current grad school applicant!" very sweet of you

I read My Stroke of Insight! It's a great book, I loved it. As for right now I'm reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - not speech related but so far it's been a good read

Love the hunger games reference here...it's exactly what I'm feeling right now! haha

I applied to Seton Hall University, Montclair State University, Kean Univeristy, Monmouth University, Brooklyn College, Queens College, Hunter College and NYU...when I talked to people and looked up these schools, most of them seemed to have put more weight on getting to know the applicant through the SOP..I'm not too sure about Queens, Monmouth, and Hunter but I'm pretty sure about the others. I also was restricted with applying because I didn't want to leave the NJ/ NY area so I don't know about schools in other areas
-
Same! I did so bad freshman year, it took forever to get my GPA back up and it's still not great Which is why I looked to only apply to schools that would look into my SOP and be understanding of that!

I completely agree! On that same boat as you

SLP Video Interview at Monmouth University
Ssen replied to laylabug's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hey! I applied to Monmouth and I graduated with a psychology degree; the school I went to didn't offer a BA in speech. I did do a lot of volunteer work in speech and I'm hoping my experiences balances that out for me. I would still apply because there could be a shot that you have something that's makes you unique and stand out! But if you do, do it soon the deadlines almost here!! -
Hey! First off I can't believe I went through the entire application process without realizing to look at this forum! Anways, I'm pretty much on the same boat as you. My GPA is on the lower side (3.1) and I took my GREs last year and they aren't competitive at all (147 V, 143 Q, 3.5 AW). Because of financial reasons I decided to apply to schools closer to home so mainly in NJ and a few in NY. I looked at schools that were more accepting of what my personal statement has to say along with my LORs. I'm applying to 4 schools in NJ: Monclair State, Seton Hall (where I did my undergrad), Monmouth, and Kean and 3 in NYC: Hunter College, Queens College, and Brooklyn College. The tri-state area is a pretty competitive area but I feel like some of these schools aren't as renown for their speech programs so I decided to leave there here
