  1. My final rejection came in this evening. This will most likely be the end of my PhD attempts - there's a studentship in Iron Age hoards at Leicester but history does not favour me and I'm not holding out any hopes for it. Thankyou to everyone who's been on / still on this journey and who have been sharing their experiences and encouragement. I wish you all the luck for your degrees. If I'm good enough for it, I might try to quit my job as a waitress and spend the rest of my life in an office cubicle. Good luck to those still waiting, and congratulations to those with offers x
  2. I don't know whether to email FSU again or not, seeing as the final decisions were apparently made a week ago. Any advice? The wait is killing me and I really want to email them! Just not sure it's advisable..
  3. I was told by someone in the admissions department that FSU had their final Classical Arch admissions meeting last Weds - still nada yet. I'm assuming if you don't hear fairly soon after the final decisions it's probably a no?
  4. FSU had their final adcomm meeting for Classical Arch on Weds - still not heard anything, getting worried!
  5. They emailed me first to tell me to check the website, and on there there was a "Status Update" in a yellow box which I clicked on, took me to the letter.
  6. Thanks guys - I really need this to come off as (barring winning the lottery or something) this will probably be the last chance I have to take my PhD. Whilst I was fininshing my MA I was accepted to the PhD at my uni, but there was no funding. I then worked for a year as a curatorial intern, during which time I got into other UK unis, including Oxford, but again there was no funding. My job contract ran out at the end of last year, I haven't been able to even get an interview anywhere else (because even entry-level curation needs a PhD apparently) and now I'm living with my parents and waitressing to try and keep my head above water. I have basically no options - if this doesn't work out I really don't know what I'll do as I apparently have no marketable skills. I can't compete with fresh graduates for office/desk-based (ugh) grad schemes - even my little brother who graduated last summer with a first from Cambridge hasn't been able to find work - he's currently doing temp work on a ski resort just to earn some money! I can't deny I'm feeling fairly trapped and pretty terrified.
  7. There's my Columbia rejection.... now everything's hanging on one school. I'm so not in a good place right now.
  8. Welp, there's my Columbia rejection. Not a surprise, but given it was my first choice and I only have one university left to hear from, I'm not holding out much hope of ever getting my PhD now
  9. Another week with nothing! I'm still fairly sure I'm not into Columbia, but I still have a tiny bit of hope for Florida... Get on with it!!
  10. FSU still hasn't made any sort of progress yet... radio silence! CUNY isn't the only one
  11. Who is posting all these Columbia acceptances?? Columbia's my top choice due to the museums and curatorial potential, and whilst acceptances have been going up there's been noone on the boards. Some info would be nice, I'm getting worried here!
  12. I'm getting frustrated now. Only 2 left to hear from - there was a Columbia acceptance on the board yesterday and when I spoke to FSU two weeks ago they said that they'd be emailing people "within the week". Argh!! If I'm going to strike out completely, I'd like to know sooner rather than later. I have a long weekend life of waitressing ahead of me...
  13. Columbia acceptance is up on the boards... that's my first choice :S worried!
