  1. So fun to read back through these posts and see how many of you had your hopes and dreams realized! It's amazing to see how much can happen in a matter of a few months! Congratulations on your acceptances, and for those still waiting, hang in there and hold onto those dreams Best wishes everyone!
  2. @ Chandru1 Utah State University does a post-bachelor program online. If you take a full course load you can complete the classes in one year, or you can space it out to just one class a semester if needed. They request that you have a 3.0 gpa to apply but you can always contact the program advisor Brynne Davies (comd.distance@usu.edu) and ask her any specific questions you have regarding GPA and admittance. It is a great program and is decently priced. Best wishes on your SLP journey! https://comd.usu.edu/htm/distance-education/online-post-bachelors-degree/post-bach-applying/online-post-bach-degree-seeking
  3. @ Twinguy Congrates, awesome news! Does that mean you have to squeeze in one more stop on your college tour?
  4. I've noticed that the Idaho acceptances are for the Meridian campus. So if you opted for Pocatello or Online then I don't think they've sent any news out for those options.
  5. I agree with Sayjo... everyone said that memorizing vocab wouldn't help but I found it DID help me. A lot of study guides have vocab in the back of the book, I went through and highlighted the ones that I didn't know and made flashcards on Quizlet (or there are already sets on Quizlet if you don't want to make your own). When I took the test after studying vocab I raised my Verbal score 5 points Also, follow the Magoosh outline/video for the essay section. I found their advice to be the most helpful. Remember, that when it comes to the essay... LENGTH is key. I tried to make my essay around 5-6 paragraphs long (Intro, 3-4 body/supporting, conclusion). My writing scores were 5.0 first test, 5.5 second test.
  6. @daisynic- I plan to withdraw I just let my school of choice know of my acceptance a few days ago so now I am planning on contacting the other schools this week. UCA just happened to contact me before I contacted them .
  7. @Caterpillar CONGRATULATONS!!! So excited for you both. Conway is a nice area... we've been out there a few times to visit family The campus is good sized but in a small town feel. It is pretty up there as well. Now you have decisions!!!
  8. Just received an acceptance email to the University of Central Arkansas with offer of an assistantship to help pay first year tuition. I will be turning this offer down since I've already accepted another school's offer so hopefully that will open up a spot for someone. Good luck to those who also applied to UCA!!!
  9. Just got accepted (via email) to University of Central Arkansas with offer of an assistantship to help pay first year tuition. Will be declining this offer though because I've already accepted an offer elsewhere. Hopefully this opens a spot for others. Good luck to all those going!
  10. @marina ballerina I preemptively marked one of my schools off as a rejection because I didn't get a required interview, however, I ended up being waitlisted. Huge surprise. Anyway, it isn't over until it's over so don't give up hope yet
  11. For those who applied to or who are familiar with NAU, what are your favorite aspects about their program? What made you decide to apply to NAU?
  12. Stephanie- Don't lose hope yet... I received one waitlist and 4 rejections before I finally received my first acceptance. I applied to 10 schools as well. Best wishes!
  13. @twinguy7 I actually just got the email yesterday... right when I was in the middle of a tour with my family at the Blue Bell Ice Cream factory (for spring break)... I'm sure I freaked out the other families on the tour with my shouts of excitement, jumping, fist pumps, and near-tears of joy (but I had to open the email as soon as I got it)
  14. @ twinguy7 Bummer about Univ of the Pacific. You still have so many opportunities to hear back and I'm excited to see who will nab you up. I received a series of rejections before I finally was accepted, you just have to keep plugging on until that ONE comes along. It only takes one Love your outlook! Keep us posted!
  15. Is anyone doing their undergrad at UNC-CH and have the inside scoop??? Have they made their way through notifying those accepted and waitlisted? Seems like any news from them (either acceptances, waitlist, rejection) is quite sparse this year.
  16. Congratulations AustimAdvocate!!!
  17. @Twinguy7- Thanks! I'm feeling much better today. New day, new start. Back on the rollercoaster @Fairydust- Thanks for the words of encouragement. I too believe things will workout for the best! Good luck with Cincinnati! @Karita- I have my fingers crossed for you! @ImpulsiveNixie- Gracious! Todo esta' bien! @Autismadvocate- You hit it right on the head... it is going to be a wonderful adventure and my family is actually looking forward to it Also, even though I was putting on a brave front, my daughter (who's 9) could tell I was disappointed by the rejection and did the cutest thing. She wrote me a note last night and put it on my pillow. In it she stated exactly what you stated, she said that the rejection was probably a good thing anyway because it would be better to go to a school that likes what I have to offer and wants me to come. It was the sweetest thing ever! I agree with you both SLPamy- Sorry to hear about UT-Austin. I think it always stings a bit to be rejected even if it was somewhat expected. You definitely have the qualifications, it's just the lottery odds of UT-Austin. They accept a lot of their own undergrad and had nearly 400 applicants competing for 20 spots. Congrates though on your amazing acceptances! So great!
  18. Sorry to hear it, Danielle! Best of luck with your other schools! @Caterpillar, thanks. It will all work out though. As long as I get one acceptance under my belt I will be SO grateful @Candynut, I have my fingers crossed for you!
  19. Checked my portal for UT-Austin and saw that I was rejected So sad since that means my family will definitely have to relocate (considering I get in elsewhere). Feeling a bit bummed right now, but I know the Lord will help me find joy in the journey and that there is a plan in place
  20. Congrates to those of you receiving interview invites... so exciting!!! The one I did they preferred in-person so I had to fly out and fly back within a short timeframe so I feel for you. Can be stressful but hopefully worth it in the end if it all turns out in your favor
  21. @Sammehh I had an interview a few weeks ago and the best/most helpful advice I received was to come up with 4-5 strong, well-rehearsed stories that I could tweak to answer various questions. Most schools want to know why you are considering their school or why you would be a good fit to their program. Make sure you have a story/answer to share for questions along those lines. Also, it is good to have an "elevator story" or "get to know you story". A story that walks them through how you got to where you are now, but in a concise 1-2 minute answer. I was able to use my "elevator story" to answer the question "What made you interested in the field of Speech Pathology". Another example...I had a story about a time I received feedback at work. This was a story I could tweak and use to answer questions regarding how I handle feedback, how I handle stress, how I handle hard projects/situations, how I work with groups, etc. I also had a few stories I rehearsed from my experiences working as a volunteer in a special education classroom. I used these stories to answer questions like, "Tell about a time when you worked with a difficult child" or "What sets you apart from the other applicants" or "What are your areas of interest", or content related/field based questions. Hope this makes sense The second best piece of advice I received was to be myself. I had a lot of feedback to present myself this way, that way, or the other, but when it came down it, I was most comfortable and confident when I was genuine and showing my true personality. The interviewers do this year after year so they can detect a genuine person from a façade so might as well just be yourself. Good luck!
  22. On the ASHA website when it states the # of admission offers a school extends, does anyone know if that includes those they put on their waitlist? For example, for UT-Austin it states that they extended 49 admission offers with the purpose of getting a target class/cohort of 25... so would the 49 admission offers include wait listed people?
  23. Wait! I thought the weekend was supposed to give relief, lol. Just received an email from the University of Tennessee this evening... yes, a SATURDAY evening. My first official news! I was waitlisted So glad to be considered and not rejected!
  24. Just received an email from University of Tennessee (yes, on a Saturday of all days)...drum roll please.... waitlisted This is the first official news I've received from my schools and at least it's not a rejection Feeling positive!
