  1. @twinguy... yes, yes it is @ImpulsiveNixie and Sayjo... Looks like you both have two acceptances, CONGRATULATIONS! As I've been watching the result page it has been great to see some success stories showing that stats aren't everything. I love seeing that there are some schools looking beyond the numbers! Though I did all I could to have competitive stats, there are definitely areas where I still fall short. However, it gives me hope and I am grateful for the schools out there that look for students who fit their program and not the stats that fit. I hope you all have been noticing the same and feeling the excitement of pending acceptances in the air. (Okay, stepping off my soap box now ). Best wishes everyone!
  2. I haven't heard anything from them yet, but UT Dallas is one of my top choices! Best of luck to you all applying and congratulations to those of you who already heard back!
  3. Well, Texas friends, this month is the month!!! March is finally here and by the end of it we should know what's in store for us. Best wishes and here's hoping a lot of acceptances are headed this way
  4. It is soooo mean to keep receiving emails from the schools I applied to only to read that it has NOTHING to do with acceptances or the program. Sheesh, stop giving me the mini heart attacks already or I'm not going to survive much longer
  5. Congratulations SPEECHYALI and TERAPISTAREA on your acceptances, awesome news! JNP92, UT-Dallas does Spring admissions so you could do an application to start next Spring. I know UT-Dallas and Austin are closed for Fall applications but not sure about the others. If you go to the ASHA website and search for programs in Texas you may find more info.
  6. This is amazing news PsycD! Congratulations!
  7. HippoPirate- I would definitely wear a suit (jacket/pant or skirt/pant). I just completed an interview last Friday (not for PU Oregon, but another school) and was complemented by both faculty and grad students on what I wore. The grad students were definitely casual in their attire... one even had slippers on... and the faculty was dressed in casual business attire, so comparatively I was a lot more dressed up but I feel it showed a level of professionalism. I also think that by dressing up you show an attitude of seriousness and respect for the program, the interview process, and those you will be meeting with. Just my opinion P.S. I did put some fun, bright red heels for a pop so don't be afraid to show some personality either
  8. The boards are really quiet today. Seems like the schools in general are quiet compared to last year. Here's hoping we start hearing SOMETHING soon
  9. My dream would be acceptance to my dream schools- UNC-CH or Vanderbilt. Definitely reach schools but I would regret it I didn't at least try My hope would be to get into a "family-friendly" program like BYU or UT-Dallas since I am a mom of 4 and worry about the toll grad school will have on my kiddos :/ My guess is that my family will end up having to move for grad school because UT-Austin is the only school in driving distance for me and the odds of getting in there feel like lottery odds. However, I'll be thrilled to be accepted ANYWHERE on my list and we're up for the adventure!!!
  10. Just received a call from BYU today for an interview! I'm scheduled to interview on February 21st, yay!
  11. Congratulations! Now let the waiting games begin... may the odds ever be in your favor! (sorry... couldn't help myself)
  12. I wish I would have taken the GRE a lot sooner. I was only able to take it twice before I had to submit apps. If I could rewind time, I would have taken it a year before apps were do so I had more time to study in the areas I was weak. I see that you are a USU online student. I wish I would have done more to get to know the professors better. Being an online student, you are a name among hundreds of others. I asked if I could join the honors group for Comm Disorders so I could work on a project with a professor, but they don't do the honors program with online students. So I had the idea to contact a couple of professors to see if I could do the same thing independent of the honors program... but never followed through on the idea. Now I wish I had... or at least tried to do something to set myself apart. I am glad that I did get in a years worth of volunteer experience before I applied. It gave me more LOR writers besides professors, and they were able to write about my hands-on experience. I am glad I attended the Summer Seminars at USU last summer. I was able to meet some of the professors there and the presentations were awesome and insightful.
  13. Twinguy7- We have family in that area, it is expensive! Best luck to you and your wife!
  14. UT-Austin is not known for their scholarships and tuition assistance. The financial help they offer is VERY limited. All assistance goes to Doctorate and 2nd year grad students first and then works down from there. They say you usually can expect one GA/TA/RA position in during your time at UT, but not much more than that. This came from the Dept. head during the open-house. He was very frank about the need to make sure you have looked at other financial options outside of their scholarships/financial assistance :/ They only do one open-house per year and that was back in October. Otherwise they don't do department visits. You can do a campus tour and visit, but they won't let you schedule anything specifically with the dept.
  15. I also applied to UT-Austin and Karita is right, they said decisions should be sent out mid-March. Good luck to you both!
  16. I've also applies to some less competitive programs... I've applied to Idaho State University, Central Arkansas, BYU, and Northern Arizona University. The main reason I applied to some less competitive programs is because I really want to be accepted Fall semester and not do another go around of apps next year. For me, getting into grad school out weighs which grad school. My grades are decent but I don't have a strong GRE, so I know my chances of getting into top programs is limited due to my GRE. However, I still did shoot for the stars and applied to my "dream schools" so I could say I tried, but I honestly would be thrilled to receive acceptance from any of the "less competitive" programs I listed I think it is good to have a well-rounded mix of schools to apply to. I had some top schools, middle of road, and less competitive. Now it's just a waiting game!!!
