NOT EVEN ONE ACCEPTANCE YET? LETS VENT HERE!!
lgwslp replied to Persis's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Mine is the same, can't see the letter. last year they put the letter on the portal, and sent an e-mail saying check portal. mine says decision made but no portal change - maybe it takes awhile to update? -
YAY! Congrats!!! So happy for you. Have you been there before? It really is nice, the professors are nice I went to their open house last year, and the hospital is great.
-
Mine says the same thing, hmm. Did you call and see? I'd think there would be a link to look at the letter. I don't have anything either - e-mail or way to check the decision. let me know what you find out.

Tennessee is one of the only states that you can get residency without having lived there a year! You would of course have to change your license, license tag, and other things, but it doesn't take as long as many states, so if you got on the ball you might be able to qualify for in-state tuition after the first semester, year, if it was worth it. UT-Knox is an incredible school, I was accepted for undergrad and didn't get to go because of the tuition, but if you can work it out to go, DO IT! Anyways, just an idea. It may have changed but i've had friends who got residency pretty quickly in Tennessee, in comparison to other states. http://www.tn.gov/safety/driverlicense/dlproof.shtml Congrats! Wish I could've gone to UT! Go VOLS! And if you have any free time, definitely go to a football game if you can, their stadium is incredible. Such a cool atmosphere.

Mine says the same, and I received an e-mail awhile ago saying it had been received and sent to the department, which I believe is what referred means so i think we are okay!.. Congrats Bcjami! ETSU is a great school.

Supplies for SLP Graduate School
lgwslp replied to lgwslp's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Wow!! So many good things to buy. Thanks everyone for the ideas and I am definitely going to buy one of those planners!! I will probably be adding all these things to my Amazon Grad School Wish List We'll see how much I can get before school! I wonder if my program does Ipads. I'll have to find out! Either way, i think it would be beneficial to have an Ipad after graduate school, even if I didn't during. There are so many apps and helpful things you can use for it, as well as note taking, recording, etc. I love buying school supplies -

Supplies for SLP Graduate School

Hmm, that definitely makes sense. I should ask the programs if they have Ipads available. Thanks for the insight!! Oh yes!! I imagine it would be. That's great. Thank you!! -
NSSHLA, similar groups, and attending conferences...
lgwslp replied to jnj85's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Definitely join NSSHLA at your school, and be an officer if possible! Also, i'd attend the conference - and volunteer if you can! It's something you can mention, and often you can meet professors from the schools you are applying to, and get to know them, and find out more about different programs, as well as meet SLPs to volunteer or observe with.. Volunteer, observation and work experience are so beneficial! Get your GPA up as much as possible! -
Maybe this is a silly question, but what supplies will everyone be purchasing for graduate school? How do you plan to stay organized? Is it worth buying an Ipad and what apps will be helpful for graduate school, staying organized and focused!? I'm starting to compile a list and wanted some insight as to what others will be using and how you plan to keep clinic paperwork, clock hours, research, etc. together!

Nope, haven't heard anything either. Application portal just says referred.

Loma Linda University Communication Sciences and Disorders
lgwslp replied to kct's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Good luck! Everything Kct said is correct. Definitely talk about both sides of the question, if they ask that - and give good examples. The more specific you are the better. The essay question was very vague, but not a difficult question. I did mine over Skype, so if you're going in person I am sure that will be a little bit nicer. The faculty I interviewed with were very nice and seemed pretty laid back. They also asked what specific areas of speech I was interested in, and why - as well as what made me decide to study Speech Language Pathology. -
Tennessee State University Applicants??
lgwslp replied to hhc's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Yeah it is, they haven't communicated at all. Did you try to call, or you just received that information from an e-mail? Hmm, interesting. Maybe the graduate school is the place lacking in communicating, and the program is fine. Either way though, the school should have a better system of notifying and responding to questions. Hope you hear something soon. -
Tennessee State University Applicants??
lgwslp replied to hhc's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Nope. I haven't gotten ANYTHING! No login. It says you'll get one, but never did and have e-mailed 3 times and tried to call. Can't login to my originial application.? Frustrating. -
I am on the alternate list for Loma Linda. I'm not sure how many people apply, but I think they accept around 25 each year? and a few from the past year that are doing the transitional year. Maybe 8.

Application Anxiety Thread
lgwslp replied to autismadvocate's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm experiencing long wait times on 6 schools!!! I haven't heard anything from them - except I had an interview from one a week ago and they said the graduate school would mail out letters late this week. It is definitely frustrating! I don't think it would hurt to call, just ask about the means you can expect to hear and if they have a timeline. Just be kind and i'm sure they'll be fine. they must expect to get those calls! -
If you know ASL (American Sign Language) I am sure there are many opportunities everywhere to volunteer with the deaf. I have members that come to my church and they sign to the few deaf members we have each week. I would google programs in your area or call around and see if there are any opportunities. As for tutoring, you can try care.com for your area and they list lots of tutoring opportunities, or maybe talk to a school and see if they have opportunities available. Just do some research! Find something you're interested in and get involved!
