  1. Thank you all for your help! I eventually did not attach the April 15 resolution, since I could not understand how binding this agreement is for graduate schools.I think schools legally can do whatever they want including revoking offers. I was also considering adding the department head while I was replying the email, but I thought this may be unprofessional again. I wrote a two-line e-mail, just saying nothing more than "I decline your offer. Thanks." But the online webpage asks why I declined to attend the university. If someone ever reads it, they will see my complaints. I was very lucky to have multiple offers in my hand. I hope everyone gets the offer he/she deserves.
  2. Thanks!! Yes the school is a participant of this agreement. I will add it as an attachment to my email.
  3. Thank you for all your responses. Last weekend I thought over this POI's offer and another offer very hard, I was hesitating between them. After this event I will also definitely decline this offer. I will do it today, just thinking over what to write on my e-mail, how to express that this is all wrong.
  4. I narrowed down my offers to two, and I was trying to make a decision. Both my offers are due April 15th. Besides, I am waitlisted by my top choice. POI from one of these two schools has been asking for my decision for several times. I was telling her that things are not fully clarified and I will notify her as soon as possible. Yesterday I have received a very angry email from this POI, stating that she is sick of me not replying her offer and will withdraw it if I do not tell her what to do in a few days. This is for me enough to reject her offer, but I am wondering, can she really do that, withdrawing an offer that is due April 15th before April 15th?
  5. Thank you for the reply. I wish they could guarantee funding for the duration of the PhD. But as far as I understand, these things depend on many things that affect the availability of the funds.
  6. So I want to minimize the uncertainty in my life, but I have these two offers. According to the first offer, I have an advisor, and he offers me a hybrid RA/TA funding scheme. On the other hand, I do not have an advisor, but the department accepted me with 1 yr. fellowship and says I will be TAing for 20hr. in my second year. I talked to a potential advisor in the second university, and he was willing to have me in his research group (mostly because I am free for two years). So which one do you think is the most financially secure option? I am struggling between the security of having an advisor and being funded for two years.
  7. I was in contact with a POI and he told me that the only way would be departmental fellowships, since he does not have any grant available. Two days ago I sent an e-mail to him, and the department. Silence up to now. Anyway, life goes on, and I am very lucky to have other offers. I almost made a decision and will send it on Monday.
  8. Same here for PhD.. Will probably hear after April 10th..
  9. Did they send an e-mail or did you call them? I have received no notification from them...
  10. I am planning to go to UCSD because of the best research fit for me. Why wouldn't you live in San Diego for 5 years?
  11. I am admitted by UT Austin Aerospace. I have received my decision around late February.
  12. Thank you very much for the information. Is 12 people for a visit day not too low? I thought UMich Aero was a much larger department.
  13. I also applied for PhD to Michigan Aerospace. I have received no notification so far. As you say, it smells like reject..
  14. Have you heard anything from Stanford Mechanical PhD? I still have not heard anything.
  15. Yes I heard that too and I do not understand the reasoning behind that. I am doing CFD. I also see from results search that they announce admission decisions by postal service! And it is March 10th, we need results to decide where to go..
  16. I am also waiting to hear from them to decide where to go. It was very interesting when I contacted my POI, he told me that PhD in Stanford requires to do MS there as well. I am actually already doing MS. I do not know whether they consider every candidate from outside Stanford for MS.
  17. Thank you very much for your replies! I will definitely ask PI @University B about the continuity about funding, and whether he is taking more students than he will fund in the following years. It is very important to find out whether students are generally funded continuously. How can I find out about that for university A? Is it OK directly to ask DGS of the department about that? It is very hard to decide. I wish they could guarantee funding for minimum amount of 4 years unless I screw up greatly...
  18. Even though they say that they will know for sure after April 15th, it does not mean that they will not know before that date. You should find out about your ranking, and communicate with the school.
  19. I am admitted to two different PhD programs in mechanical engineering. University A: 1 yr fellowship and 1yr TAship for the next year. But I do not have an advisor assigned for me. University B: 1 yr RAship and it says that the offer will be extended if my advisor is satisfied with my research performance. Which one is more secure and which one would you consider "better"? Having a fellowship seems very good, because I will have the opportunity to talk to professors and pick my thesis advisor. But I am afraid that if I can not find an advisor I will remain unfunded. The problem with the other offer is that I will almost have to change fields, but on the other hand I will already have a thesis advisor. Which one is better in this situation? Universities have very close rankings so it is not a criteria. I just want to compare the offers. Thanks!
  20. Congratulations! Yes I do. Well I have received nothing, which probably means rejection or waitlist...
  21. Does MIT do interviews for PhD? I heard nothing, and the department set a deadline for this Friday. Has anyone heard a word from them?
  22. I received my official offer from UT Austin Aerospace a week ago. Did not apply to Stanford and Maryland so I do not know about them..
  23. Stanford has not announced PhD decisions, right? Does anyone know about when they may send official letters?
  24. wait-listed by Princeton.. this is my dream school, hope I can get in.. BTW. Has anyone heard from MIT Aero&Asto? March 1st is deadline, right?
  25. I am wait-listed by Princeton!! I do not know whether I have a real chance. Those who do not want to go there, please reject your offers!!
