  1. I just received an offer of admission to Queen's MPH, but will likely decline it. As stated by other posters, for those still waiting, don't give up hope and keep your head up!
  2. I'm actually from the Toronto area. I only have a handful of friends who live out in BC, so the whole idea of moving out of province is pretty daunting, but exciting nonetheless! Living on res would be ideal but it's way out of my budget. I'm leaning towards off-campus housing, a few miles away from the UBC campus itself and commuting there. Fortunately, UBC has a U-Pass program so the idea of commuting to school doesn't sound too bad! Where are you leaning toward in the fall?
  3. Strange, I received an offer of admission from UofA a few weeks ago, but had to turn it down in favour of another program. I emailed the program coordinator informing her of my decision, to which she replied and thanked me for letting her know. I checked my inbox again a few minutes ago and I see a rejection email from UofA but from someone else. Has anyone had this happen before? Hahaha
  4. I declined my offer to SFU the other day - I hope you receive some good news!
  5. I've already accepted my offer at UBC because the deadline to accept was so soon. However, I'm still waiting for UofT, Queen's, and Waterloo. I hate how inconsistent these deadlines and offers of admission are across schools. Granted, each school has a different application process and varying number of applicants; I just wish they all coincided with one another a little more closely. Good luck on your decision! I hope you and fellow others here receive more good news!
  6. I also received an offer from UofAlberta for the Health Promotion stream! Congrats timetobegin! Do you plan to accept it?
  7. Congratulations!! I received the same email too. Do you plan to accept the offer?
  8. Huge congrats to all those who have received offers! I'm still waiting for UofT, Waterloo, and Queen's. With UofT's applicant pool this year, I'm anticipating some bad news. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.
  9. I started asking my LORs in October and gave them all the pertinent information (deadlines, my CV, LOI, and so on) in December. Between December and the application deadline (usually Jan-Feb for public health) I refined my statements and other materials. I started really early thinking I was going to apply for psychology programs as well (due in December) but changed my mind and focused on public health instead. Thankfully, it turned out well. My only regret was not looking into and applying for scholarships and external funding. Although I plan to apply during my first year, it's unfortunate that I won't have this financial backup this year.
  10. I also applied to the Population Health stream. I hope you get some good news!
  11. Congrats to all who have received some good news! I received an offer from SFU via email, although I formally accepted the offer to UBC yesterday. These early deadlines to accept/decline are throwing me off guard! Best of luck!
  12. Congrats ShelbyH! Is USask your top choice?
  13. My GPA in the final 2 years was also 91%. I did my undergrad in psychology but also minored in sociology. I have about 2 years of research experience in program planning and evaluation. One research project involved assessing "at risk" children's cognitive and social skills as a function of childcare accessibility and quality of care. Outside of research, I currently mentor children and youth and do my best to promote their physical and mental health. I've heard some pretty scary stuff about bullying and also witnessed the effects of physical inactivity, so this job has pushed me to create and implement various anti-bullying activities and obesity prevention strategies in my workplace. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Good luck!
  14. Hi all, I received an email from UBC and was recommended for admission to their MPH program. Frankly, I was surprised by how soon I have to notify them - I'm still awaiting the results for 5 other schools (SFU, Alberta, UofT, Queen's and Waterloo) - but UBC is one of my top choices. Best of luck to everyone else! Hope the waiting period ends soon!
  15. Hmm, I'd recommend that you check out Orange is the New Black and Suits if you haven't done so yet. HBO also has a new show called True Detective with McConaughey (who I believe is at the prime of his career) and Woody Harrelson. It's incredibly well written, with dark humour, and utterly riveting storylines. I'm just hoping it stays that way!
  16. Hello all! First time poster, long time lurker. Has anyone here applied to the MPH program at UBC? I've been frantically opening the application checklist making sure that everything is complete and submitted, and I see that my GRE scores weren't submitted. I completed a stats course during my undergrad that fulfilled their minimum grade criteria, and I was under the impression that I didn't need to submit these scores (based on the admission requirements listed on the site). I contacted the program coordinator about this and she told me to be patient while they process the applications. However, it's been about a week and a half since all my materials were submitted and my 'to do list' hasn't changed. Is anyone in the same boat? Best of luck to everyone!
