  1. what's the word on Yale?
  2. Was finally, THANKFULLY (mercifully) accepted to a funded PhD. Will be turning down MA in Humanities at Chicago with full tuition scholarship. hopefully that turns into good funding news for someone else who is considering that program!
  3. Just got the call tonight. IN AT PENN!!! Can't believe it. 8 straight rejections. I am overwhelmed.
  4. no. this is how i found out about it. http://www.yale.edu/graduateschool/academics/exchanges.html
  5. Also, for those of you who applied to Ivy Leagues + a couple other top-tier schools there is an exchange program that allows you to do a semester or academic year at another institution in the consortium. I don't have full details but, might be a best of both worlds situation if you've been admitted to Brown but want the benefit of working Harvard faculty at some point.
  6. UPenn interview was less focused on my research interests and more focused on fit. I've been out of school for several years so POI wanted to know how I'd use that experience as a grad student, what I do for fun, etc. Overall it was 45 minutes long, and mostly informal. I got a great vibe from the prof and a sense that they really care and want students to succeed. Will certainly accept if offered a position. I was told at the end that he was excited abt my app, so I'm taking it as reason to hope for the best!
  7. thanks so much for your response! it's a lot to think about. I still have a chance for PhD so will hold out for that but I'm excited by the possibility of the MAPH!
  8. has anyone else interviewed with UPenn? Any word??
  9. was accepted to University of Chicago MAPH (rejected from PhD) but I received a full tuition scholarship. I know this program doesn't have a great rep, or at least one as a cash cow. Also concerned about the conservative nature of UChicago. Especially since I want to study radical blackness. My sense is it isn't really a fit. Can anyone speak to this definitively to the political leanings of the program? So far it's my only option. Full tuition makes it a definite contender ( though I'd still have loans if I do it full time.)
  10. Have applied to 12 schools (English, African American studies, and American Studies programs) and haven't been accepted anywhere yet, unfortunately. The beginning of last week was a hot mess -- 3 rejections in 24 hours. Rough. 5 rejections total. By some magic, I did get an interview at UPenn though! I think it went well, but I'm not sure what will happen AND THE ANTICIPATION IS KILLING ME!
  11. anyone with Duke rejections in the African American lit field? Or past M in alpha? Wondering what's holding mine up...
