  1. Indeed, it is GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR! CHOMP
  2. I think that is weird about the ASHA thing, bc I just got my first acceptance to SC (distance-ed) yesterday, and I have to have my response to them by March 31! If I don't hear from any other school until then, I have to accept to be on the safe side!
  3. I just found out that I got in to South Carolina! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I seriously didn't think I was going to get in ANYWHERE! This so so surreal!
  4. Has anyone else noticed that the schools they are applying to have sent out admissions decisions later than last year? I have double-checked and it's true for all of my schools so far. Someone did post stats from one of my schools (not sure how legit they were), but the program had an additional 1/3 or more applications this year than last! Boo!
  5. I just can't begin to say how ready this thread gives me some sort of peace. It's a constant reminder that I am NOT THE ONLY ONE with these feelings of inadequacy and anxiety. I know all of you are thinking what I am thinking: "what's the next step?" Is it too early to begin a thread with that title? I am really curious as to what people plan to do to make themselves competitive for next year's application process, if it comes to that. I just thought I would work as an SLPA (NC allows assistants as some states do not), but from what I understand, it's not that easy! Those jobs are few and far between. Some SLPs I have spoken to weren't even aware that job role existed. Not a good sign. I've also considered applying to a one year grad program in early childhood, as I am interested in early intervention...but that's a lot more $$!
  6. THANK YOU FOR SHARING! You did a great job explaining it briefly, but directly.
  7. This is what I received from WCU when I emailed today asking if all acceptances have gone out and if we will be notified of wait-list status...Not much but hope it helps. As long as you haven’t received a letter of denial, your application is still under consideration for admission. The program doesn’t have a formal waitlist that I have been notified about. Some offers have been made, but some of those have declined the offer, so the program will go back to the pool of applicants to select from. Keep your eye on your email for more information. The CSD program may have more information about their timeline for admission if you would like to contact them.
  8. P.s. autismadvocat: been wanting to say this for a while...GO Gators! My hubs and I met at UF, but he is a Seminole born and bred! I guess I get the best of both worlds; at least somebody is happy during football season!
  9. How did you approach discussing the C in your statement of purpose? I felt that I wanted to draw on my strengths, as well as, my future plans and what I would contribute to their program that I didn't know where to fill in any academic issues. Some schools wanted a strict 2 page double-space! Maybe I'm just too chatty? I think it could be very beneficial to see other people's statements of purpose within the field in order to ensure that yours is competitive with others. Too bad I didn't think of that last fall!
  10. I thought about doing online, as well, but am so glad I decided against it! I wound up taking a class at a community college thinking that surely it would be easier (and cheaper) than other options. However, I will tell you...it's not easy! I'm taking 16 hours total including 12 comd classes and the 4 credit chem class. I am very overwhelmed! I love my classroom professor, but the material is difficult for me to get through. The good news is that since it is at a community college, though the material is still difficult the expectations are way less and easy to obtain at least a B. I am taking general chemistry bc I was advised by a school advisor that I take a certain level to ensure that it will transfer and be accepted by other institutions. So, be sure to check with your grad school if they will accept the level of the course you sign up for. I would also recommend taking physics as it applies MUCH more to what we are learning in the COMD program. I also discovered that ASHA doesn't seem to care what physical science class you take, it more-so depends on the grad school that you are applying to or accepted into. Sorry if this was choppy, I'm pretty exhausted/burnt out while writing this. hope it helps though.
  11. Thank you so much for checking! I really appreciate it! Maybe this week will be the week I hear something?!? Surely! I definitely have this fear that since I've not heard anything from ANYONE it's a lost cause but then again, sometimes no news is good news! (Trying to see the bright side)!
  12. Would you please check for my name on that waitlist?! Kristen C. Miller. Crossing my fingers.
  13. LOL That, I couldn't imagine. I grew up in Florida and am now in NC, which is beautiful 10 months out of the year! These two months of ice, rain and cold are killing me! Now making a run to the mailbox..wish me luck on any news!
  14. It's like living in a cold hell to be honest; a depressing, un-ending, wintery, cold hell. LOL.
  15. Thoughts about emailing the programs to check on the status of your application? I have seen on the results page a few people have done this. Wondering if anyone here has? I would love to, but don't want to tick them off if they haven't made a decision on me yet! I know they are so busy and want to finalize their cohorts just as we want to know where we will be!
  16. I suppose it's a good thing then! I'm so excited/nervous! Chapel Hill is my #1 and I'm sure they will not have many people turn them down right away so, that makes the waiting game worse! I'm so happy for this forum though, knowing that I'm certainly not the only one!
  17. I also am really curious as to why not all acceptances/waitlists go out at the same time. I have seen a handful of people receiving responses to schools that I applied to and I'm wondering why I have recevied no communication as of yet or why there is no change on the portal. Is no news, good news? I suppose I expected that all of their acceptances would go out on the same day and not trickle in as it appears they are doing. Also, if they have already notified the accepted students, why can't they just go ahead and let those of us leftover know if we are waitlisted or not! Could it be that acceptances go out in the order the applications came in? I don't get this process at all...I feel crazy!!
  18. Wondering if most people are posting their acceptance/rejections both on this forum and to the results page. If that is the case, I will stop freaking out every time I see an acceptance to one of my schools on either. I have this fear that all of the acceptance spots and slipping away!
  19. Saw that you have been a Montessori teacher; would love to talk to you about the Montessori method offline sometime! I'm very interested in certain aspects for it (for my future little bebe's one day) but have a lot of reservations, as well! I have worked in a traditional daycare/pre-school setting of learn through play (creative curriculum) so not very structured itself.
  20. The whole process is stressful. 'Im definitely stressing about getting in and if so, where I will get in because I'm married and we aren't planning on moving (so I will have to get a little apt. and commute). It's also hard to manage the anticipation along with 16 credit hours I am taking. I'm taking so much this semester b/c I needed an extra science class to fulfill the ASHA requirements. One of my schools required that it be complete by the end of this semester, as it has to be completed before entrance into their program which begins this summer with clinicals.
  21. speechiejen, good luck to all your schools! Keep me updated on APP since that's the only one we have in common. Did you apply to the FSU on-campus program or distance? I wanted to do their distance, but I no longer live in-state (though I have the availablity to move back to FL). They told me that if I wasn't a FL resident at the time of the application, they wouldn't accept me Bummer b/c I'm married and need flexibility with my husband's job (you know, the one who makes the $).
  22. I.CAN'T.STOP.ON.THIS.FORUM! It's so bad for my health. I can't concentrate on my last semester, (2nd bachelor's), which is terrible! I've tried to add in more yoga to my routine, but it only seems to help when I'm in shavasana.
  23. Do you know when Chapel Hill will notify? I think it's March, but correct me if I'm wrong!
