  1. Do most students who attend MGH come from outside the Boston area? If so, where do you come from?
  2. Thanks for the responses! Still in the process of making my final decision regarding where best to live.
  3. I know that scholarships choose students with exceptional GPA and GRE scores..... I am wondering if there are any scholarships available that reward grad students in Speech-Language Pathology for unique volunteer or community service?
  4. What are your thoughts on Adelphi......and Touro?
  5. What have you all heard about the program at Adelphi Garden City?
  6. Can anyone share what they know about this program?
  7. I am extremely upset that I will not be able to make the Admitted students day next weekend. I still have so many questions about the program that I want to ask current students in order to get candid answers about how manageable the program is, support systems, length of program, how much emphasis is placed on Medical SLP, extra class requirements, and if geology is accepted as a science. Has anyone been able to contact students currently in the program? If so, how were you able to make the connection?
  8. I am somewhat unsure of exactly what Medical SLP entails. I have heard people refer to MGH and NY Medical College as specific to Medical SLP but I am wondering what exactly that means. Are there any courses that are taken in these programs in addition to what other programs offer (more science or anatomy for example) What types of clients and settings does one work in if they are a medical slp? Any clarification is greatly appreciated.
  9. I REALLY do not want to have to take physics or chemistry. Does anyone know if Adelphi accepts geology? Thanks.
  10. I would love to connect with other accepted grad students of Adelphi GC grad program! Is there a facebook accepted student page for fall 2014? I know there is an accepted Adelphi facebook page but this is for ALL grad students in all programs, and I wondered if there is a separate facebook page just for us Speech-Language Pathology grad students to get to know each other.
  11. Adelphi is a great school. i have a family member that attended it- she said the faculty was awesome, students are very helpful and supportive, diverse students (since they only require 6 courses of pre-req's, you end up with career changing students, which adds diversity to the class),you go to schools on sundays (except for clinic work which is in Garden City campus, and also occasionaly for a class or two u need to attend garden city during the week a couple times). Everyone there gets clinic placements, the only downside is, like in every school, if u want to work with adults, it could be a little harder to find a placement as there are fewer of those to go around. Adelphi has a great name in the field, is respected , and u have to consider at the end of the day, that your education has 2 components: what they teach you /show you in the clinic at school, and then how much work u put in.
  12. Wow lisa thanks! I copied and pasted the response so maybe others who are interested could read as well.Definitely not encouraging about Touro. I have a friend who goes there and she would not recommend it. She is having a bad experience in comparison to mine (I'm at a regular state university). One thing about her program that majorly bothered me is that they don't help their students find placements for externships. What? My school assigns us to sites based on our interests, in comparison.
  13. Lisa, thanks for your response! I am also concerned about the reputation that Touro has and what opinion potential employers would have about hiring students who graduated from Touro. I am not happy to hear that students need to find their own clinical placements....Could you share which forum you asked the question about Touro...maybe I can find other information there.
  14. I am wanting to get a real feel for the program. Anything and everything that you can share is much appreciated.Particularly interested in how manageable the program is, the intensity of critical analysis of research (I have heard from students at other schools that some programs are research-focused and require students to read and analyze endless articles, which takes up so much time that they are barely left with any time to study or create therapy plans. How supportive is the faculty and what is the student body like - competitive or supportive. Good luck to my fellow applicants and thank you!
