  1. I'll be attending the Med SLP program at the U of Washington, because I love moving across a continent and amassing large amounts of debt.   :D

Seriously though, it's a great program, with everything I could want in terms of research, facilities and faculty and I know I would've ended up specializing in MedSLP eventually, so I might as well get started early.  It's also a city I love from my visits.   My wife and I are looking at Grad school as an opportunity to find a permanent home and we're hoping Seattle will be the one.

  2. I recieved an acceptance email in late February. I'm not sure if they're all done with first round acceptances but I know one other student who hasn't heard from them yet.

I'll just say that I agree with everything MNIJ said except about the area which I don't really know about. I'll add that they even have their own preschool program in the same building. So yeah, it's a great place for clinical training.

  3. Papaya, thanks for all the info.  I was aware of some of that, but I haven't been able to visit the program and it sounds like you have first-hand knowledge about the place.  I guess, living in Tacoma, you would.  I knew about the four placements and that's a great point as far as building contacts.

I'm strongly leaning towards going.  It's going to be a stressful cross-country move but even beyond the quality of the program, I love Seattle and so does my wife.  My dog hates the rain but he'll have to get over that.

I really hope you get in off the waiting list.  If you do and you attend, we need to be in touch over the summer.  If you get excited about an electrolarynx, you're my kind of people.   :)

  4. Normally, I would say to go for the less expensive school - HOWEVER, it can be hard to land a medical setting placement for your CF year and going to a school that focuses heavily on MedSLP will increase your chances.  I think it might be worth it to do the MedSLP program if you are certain that you absolutely want to focus on the medical side of things.

That's a really good point.  Thanks.

  5. So, I need some advice.

I've been really fortunate to get into a few great programs.  I've narrowed it down to four: MGH, Maryland-College Park, Temple and just yesterday I got accepted to University of Washington MedSLP.  I know, I'm one lucky SOB.

My question to you guys is, if I think I belong in a medical setting, is it a no-brainer to go to UW?  Moving shouldn't be too much of an issue.  For argument's sake, let's say money isn't an issue (though of course it is).

  6. I used the Princeton Review book which came with two online practice tests.  I also bought an extra Princeton Review book with just practice problems and did a ton of those.

From what I've heard, the explanations in Magoosh are better but I did manage a 155 Quant, despite not having studied Math in a looong time, so P.R. clearly worked for me.  The best part of the practice test was the feedback you get on the essays after you submit them.  From it, I understood exactly what they were looking for.
