  1. I'm an SLPA - I've been at this job for about a month and a half. SLPA jobs are super rare in my state (WA). When I applied it was the only SLPA position I could find in the entire state. But I was looking online the other day and found like 10 SLPA openings, so I guess it's growing fast! I graduated from undergrad in 2014 and spent last year applying to grad schools and didn't get in anywhere (except for one school that accepted me and then called me right back saying oops you're missing a prerequisite, never mind). So I'm hoping this experience will make me a more desirable candidate? I'm still worried my grades aren't good enough though, but I'm not sure how to retake any CSD classes because this job is out in the middle of nowhere. And I really can't afford to....
  2. If I don't get in anywhere I think I'm giving up on SLP, which is too bad because I think I'd love it. But I spent probably $1000 on applications/GRE/etc this year and it was all for nothing. The main thing though is that I don't have anyone to get letters of rec from. The professors I asked this year didn't know me that well and by the time another year goes by they'll probably have forgotten about me.
  3. I did but apparently the program starts in the summer, June 1 And they said the courses have to be completed by June 1
  4. Also, has anyone heard from Eastern New Mexico University? I applied there but I'm worried they didn't get my application. It required being sent over email and the first time I sent it they told me the attachment didn't work, so I sent it using a new format and they never replied. I assumed that meant it worked but now I'm worried....
  5. This whole application process has been frustrating enough, but what happened two days ago just sent me over the edge. I woke up to a voicemail from University of South Carolina's distance program asking me to call them back. I did and they asked me if I was still interested in their program. I said yes and they offered me a place in their program! (I was on the waitlist) I was over the moon and I accepted on the spot. I literally danced around my house because I had pretty much accepted that I wasn't going to get in anywhere at this point. Then about half an hour later they called back and told me that never mind, they couldn't accept me because I haven't taken a statistics and chemistry/physics course. Um, are you kidding me? I understand having that as a prerequisite, but seriously you didn't check to make sure I fulfilled all the requirements before offering me admission??? So disorganized and careless. Heartbreaking. Thanks for reading my rant. I just needed to vent. Please feel free to vent your own frustrations about the application process here.
  6. I went to WW for my undergrad and I applied to the grad program there last year. I think I heard back (via letter) on the last week of mMrch. I came back from spring break at the beginning of April and had my rejection letter sitting in the mail box. I hope you have better luck!
  7. Congrats you guys! So I assume those of us who didn't get interview emails are getting rejections soon?
  8. I screwed up with a deadline too. University of South Carolina's deadline is January 1st and my last professor hadn't submitted the letter of rec until December 31st. Once she submitted it I was able to click submit on my CSDCAS application. Only after I submit it do I find out that the application needs to be verified by January 1st. As of today it is still not even verified. So that sucks. I would have submitted it way earlier too if my professor hadn't waited til the last minute on it. And that was the same professor who submitted one of my letters of rec late last year. Sucks that you missed the deadline but don't beat yourself up about it! Happens to the best of us.
  9. I did my undergrad at WWU. It would be my first choice for grad school because I LOVE Bellingham and WWU, but I know I wouldn't be able to get in. The school's undergrad programs are considered safety schools (even though it's a great school) but the grad program is surprisingly competitive. I knew people in my CSD cohort that were AMAZING near-4.0 students who didn't get in. There are simply too many people applying. However, it sounds like you have a lot going for you that will make you stand out, so it doesn't hurt to apply I suppose. Good luck either way! Feel free to message me if you have more questions about WWU.
  10. Just got my first rejection. I expected to get rejected from that school though so it's almost a relief to just KNOW for sure.
  11. I want to work in schools when I'm an SLP so next year I'm going to contact the SLPs of schools in the nearest school district and ask if I can volunteer/shadow them and help them out. My friend did that last year.
  12. Good to know. I did apply to Meridian but it was my second choice. My first choice is online.
  13. Apparently some people have been accepted to Idaho State within the last few days. I haven't heard anything from them yet and I'm freaking out! Has anyone gotten a decline from them? I feel like I heard that you generally get notified right away if you get accepted or declined but if you don't hear anything you're probably on the waitlist. So I'm hoping for that! Now that some people have heard from them I am really starting to feel anxious.
  14. Hi! I'm Molly and I'm 20 years old. I'm a senior at Western Washington in Bellingham, WA. I'm majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and minoring in Linguistics. Graduating in June, aaahhh! I'm graduating so young because I did the running start program in high school - a WA program where you can take classes at a local community college while you're in high school for dual college+high school credit. So I earned my 2-year transfer degree at the same time I graduated high school. It was pretty overwhelming to get right into the CSD program during my first quarter at "real" college! I think I'd like to become a school-based SLP. I think I'd like working at a middle or high school especially. I'm currently waiting to hear back from the two grad schools I applied to and the wait is driving me insane! Interests include traveling (I haven't really traveled anywhere but I REALLY want to), photography, writing, watching tv (obsessively), and indiefolk/alternativey music.
