  1. I did the post-grad BSW at Lakehead, worked as a Social Worker for a few years, and have been accepted to two advanced standing MSW programs this year. Given that it's the same amount of school either way, I'ld recommend going that route. I've also really appreciated the chance to take on placements and a professional role before going for my MSW as my interests now are completely different to what they were before I started. However, I had very little relevant experience before doing my BSW, so you might be a couple of steps ahead of where I was then. I don't think you can go wrong either way, really.
  2. I just got an e-mail saying the Faculty of SW at Lakehead was recommending me for admission to the advanced standing program. Having already done a couple of degrees there it's tempting (Thunder Bay = saunas and delicious Finnish pancakes), but I think I'm sticking with Laurier. I'm surprised Lakehead isn't a bit quicker sending out acceptances given that it's a bit of an underdog. It would've been a much more appealing option had I not already paid Laurier a deposit weeks ago. Ah well...I hope anyone else who applied there got some good news as well! I highly recommend it as a school and T-Bay's an awesome town. Please excuse me...I have to go reminisce and try not to trade in my sensible Laurier acceptance in for another delightful year up north.
  3. Fantastic! Thanks for that...I'll continue manically checking my mailbox until it arrives.
  4. For anyone else who was accepted to Laurier, did you get a nice bid admissions package in the mail, or is it just the e-mail? Lol, not to be weird about it, but even knowing I got in I still keep checking my mail box for one of those big envelopes. A bit ridiculous, but it feels sooo good getting one of those bad boys in the post.
  5. Just got my letter saying I've been waitlisted for U of T. Laurier was my first choice so I'm pretty okay with it. Congrats to everyone who was accepted and good luck to those who were waitlisted or haven't heard!
  6. Mine's still saying 'under review' as well...Really hoping you get good news!
  7. I guess it doesn't matter if they don't separate things when they send out the e-mails, but just in case I applied for the IFG stream. Fingers crossed that they just haven't notified everyone yet.
  8. It is, yeah. The U of T program looks great, but I think I might get lost in such a big school. What about you? Is it your first choice or are you holding out for another program?
  9. I hope so! Thank you, and fingers crossed you get some good news.
  10. Thanks! Good luck with U of T! Hopefully they don't keep everyone hanging too long.
  11. Maybe they haven't sent all the e-mails yet? .I finished up with a 90% average for my HBSW (no clue what that equals in terms of my GPA). Other than my practicum, I spent 6 months as a support worker in a forensic mental health centre and have 2.5 years as a Social Worker in a clinical role in a drugs and alcohol service in London. I've done as many smaller training courses as I can get my hands on (really fortunate to get lots of these opportunities free of charge through my job) and am partway through a post-grad certificate in forensic practice through Humber. Not sure if that helps or not. I really wish you all the best getting in. Fingers crossed that you'll still hear from Laurier, and if not hopefully U of T comes through. It certainly sounds like you have the grades and experience that you should be getting in!
  12. Got my Laurier acceptance e-mail...wooo!!! Good luck to everyone else who applied.
  13. I did my HBSW at Lakehead in Orillia a few years ago and loved it. I've been employed in a clinical role in England since then, and know quite a few people I was in school with who found social work positions with that degree (many have since gotten MSWs or are in the process of doing them part time). I personally went for the HBSW first because I wanted some experience before getting my Masters as I hadn't worked in a social care setting before. Either option would be well worth it I think.
