  1. nice work. that is very useful. also quite nerdy , but in a good way. i appreciate people with enthusiasm.
  2. i just received the official letter, but it was not a mass email. hope you hear good news soon! cheers
  3. hi, i posted the first acceptance to the results. sorry for any stress that my post may have induced. i received a personal email from a prof i know, so i think i was a special case. though he mentioned that an official email would follow later in the day (yesterday), i am yet to receive it. this leads me to believe that they haven't officially released the results yet, so no reason to think bad thoughts yet. i'll post an update here when i receive the official letter. best of luck to you!
  4. I think you're definitely an exception to the rule. While it would be nice to not have to consider the funding package when making this decision, for most people the money is a deal maker/breaker. Last time I checked, I had $400 on my bank account, so I'm not in a position to entertain an offer that doesn't at the very least include health benefits and a modest stipend. I'm actually a generally pretty risk prone person, but I'd also choose the program that I can attend and be more or less financially stable over a slightly better program with precarious funding. It just isn't something you want to deal with when you're already a busy grad student. That's why unless my potential adviser can secure some source of funding for me, I'll also have to decline UWisconsin, even though I do like their program.
  5. UCSD admit here. I’m not a fan of the stats game. Frankly, I think it creates more misinformation and anxiety than anything. I think there is more range in these bare stats than most people recognize. But, since you ask, I’ll give you a basic description and try to keep it more or less holistic. I graduated last May from a top private US university with a decent, not stellar GPA in soc and poli sci. Had a great Quant GRE score and just decent scores on the other two sections. I had done some research as an undergrad and wrote a thesis. Since I’m pursuing area studies in grad school, I’m sure it helped that I speak two other languages fluently. This year I’m studying relevant things abroad on a fellowship. My rec letters are difficult to gauge, but I imagine they were somewhere between solid and great and 2/3 were from prominent faculty. These stats also got me into Wisco; and I think, had I submitted my bare numbers to this forum for review, they would have said that Wisco is a serious reach. But then again, this forum is full of crazy people (no offense, crazy people!). Hope this helps and good luck to you!
  6. Thanks! that did the trick! Best of luck to you too! cheers
  7. Hi, I can't seem to be able to load the Wisconsin electronic application website. I've been trying since yesterday. The deadline is later today, so I'm getting a bit worried. I emailed the department asking them what's up, but am yet to hear back. Anyone else having the same problem? The sign in page won't load for me. Thanks
