  1. I emailed VCU MFA Sculpture, cause I didn't want to wait anymore, and they wrote a very nice no.
Expected, wonderful competitive program for 6 spots.

I really don't want to do this again next year.

  2. I just graduated from SMFA with my BFA in May of 2013.

The school is going through some changes. The acceptance rate for the undergrads is very high, and the school is able to function and make money by accepting not-so-talented but wealthy kids.  Having said that, there are many students (both undergrad and grad) who are very very talented and intelligent.
It is true that the faculty are SMFA biggest asset.

I can't quite speak to the move to distance SMFA from Tufts. I'm not sure when or how that is going to happen. Having said that, students are allowed to take up to 3 courses through a program called Proarts which connects SMFA, Massart, Berkley, Boston Architecture College, and a couple of other schools. This means you can take courses at other schools for credit, for free. SMFA is highly experimental and conceptually driven, but lacks some technical facilities and space.
Boston is a pretty good city. It is highly academic with MANY schools and institutions. And our proximity to NYC is helpful. However, while Boston is academic, it is not particularly experimental.

There are pros and cons to the school.

I'm not sure about the Grad program, but they do tend to give a lot of money to the under grads.

    Hope this helps

  3. I can't remember the name of the man who interviewed him.

It sounded like his interview went well. It seemed like a pretty rigorous interview though, about 45 mins long.

They talked about different theortical threads that pertained to the work. It sounded like they are very interested in collaboration and social practice. Working out of the studio. And of course they talked about why CMU specifically.

    Hope that helps.
    C

  4. Trying to mentally prepare for my CMU interview today. I'm surprisingly not all that nervous- especially compared to how I was when I was first contacted. I've basically come down to realizing that I just need to be myself and being nervous will make me draw a blank. I just don't want to forget to ask the questions that I have about the department, so I suppose I will write them down.

Then, the wait afterwards. I believe its only a week in this case though, so I'm grateful for that!

My partner had an interview with CMU this past Sunday. Good luck!

  5. I see but I really believe they will call or email to give applicants notifications and then change the status in their system. Did you or your partner get a call for interview by any chance?

No. We have not be contacted yet. Based on what other people have posted, it sounds like they won't start notifying people until week 1 or 2 of March

  6. Hi Fenotfem, where did you see "pending"? Mine just said submitted.

My partner and I are both applying to UCLA for the MFA program. My status says "Submitted- pending descision" while his just says "Submitted". Not sure what the difference is, but that has how it has been for about a month. May not mean anything.
