  1. I've just (as in, ten minutes ago) been offered admission to my first-choice program in British Columbia. In the offer letter, they stipulate that in order to be placed for my September practicum, I need to provide proof of a study permit by June 15th. If I can't do this, I'll have to complete my practicum the following September, adding another year onto my program. I live in the Northeastern US and could conceivably get up to the border to apply for a study permit before June 15th. My question is, can I apply for a study permit at the border, stay in the country for a long weekend, and then go back home to prepare for the move? Or does the whole big move need to happen all at the same time?
  2. Seems unlikely for such a small, remote school, but I'll be heading there in the Fall for Social Work and would love to meet other future students.
  3. I just saw the new rules for international students to go to Canada on a study permit - they look innocuous enough, I think. Will they entail many changes to the process of applying for a permit (i.e. is there anything I'm missing)? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2014-02-12.asp
  4. I kind of love this question, definitely one I've been thinking about since I first started the app process. Right now I'm just starting the long-haul wait for an admission decision which won't come until MAY (WHYYYYYY GOOOOOODDDDDD). Normally it's easy to fall into the trap of worrying over this "BUT WHAT IF?!" question, but I like that a lot of these responses are looking at it from a more excited perspective of "What possibilities are available to me?" If I don't get into any of my programs, I'm going to quit my job anyway and WWOOF around for a few months. I've never done any traveling, and it seems like a great and inexpensive way to do that. I love that there's still a learning component and that there are probably ways I could finagle the experience into something that would serve me on my second round of applications to social work programs, so I look at it as a fun, exciting new way to continue improving on myself. But like, also I would cry really hard for a long time before I made any of these plans.
  5. HI there everyone! I've been reading these threads for a while now - not sure if they're increasing or decreasing my anxiety! Judging by my searches, this seems super unlikely, but is anyone applying to the MSW at UNBC? It's my first choice school so I've applied to two programs there. I guess they're having some issues entering data into their new online application system, so I'm just casually losing my mind over here. Can't believe it'll be another two months at least until I find out. SIGH. Good luck and happy (chyeah) waiting, y'all.
