  1. Thanks I get nervous figuring out these portals. I had a bad experience with one and couldn’t get my result even though I got an email saying a decision had been made...that was a sleepless night. I haven’t heard anything from Northwestern yet so ??
  2. @Dobby'sSocks I’m sorry to hear about your rejection from Northwestern. Is the portal you’re talking about the same as the “Activity Page” they emailed about? I clicked the link for that and was just sent to the normal applyweb website with “Print Receipt,” “View Checklist” and a list of my recommenders. Did a new link appear there for you? Thanks for posting about your results. I appreciate it. Also your username makes me happy. Good luck with your other applications.
  3. Congrats. And good luck with the rest of your applications.
  4. @deltablue @Sumner224 Just an FYI...I emailed her a few years back and she said she was no longer accepting graduate students in anticipation of retirement
  5. Glenda Gilmore is no longer taking graduate students.
  6. Hi I’m the one who posted the Berkeley waitlist result. I received an email from the Department of History. I didn’t contact a POI or graduate admissions prior. The email said this is their first year instituting a waitlist.
  7. Thanks! I’m in 19th century US
  8. Thanks! I hope you hear good news soon too
  9. Just got in at UC Davis! So confirmation that your conversation is a good sign
  10. Ps. I had a similar conversation with a professor at UC Davis...so I’m optimistically keeping my fingers crossed too. Maybe it’s a UC thing
  11. From what I’ve observed if a POI seeks you out for a recruitment type interview they will be advocating for you to the adcom. This doesn’t necessarily mean you will get in but it of course helps your chances to have someone fighting for you. I’ve also seen top candidates for a program get interviews like you described from multiple faculty members so the program can let them know how into them they are. In a case like that there is a strong chance of acceptance. On the other hand, if you’re the one who sets up the meeting with a POI it doesn’t seem to mean much as far as admissions chances. Your situation sounds very positive to me. Good luck!
  12. @CulturalCriminalThanks! I was accepted to Boston College History today but have not heard anything from American Studies. From looking at the results page I don’t expect to hear anything til mid-February. Literature appears to notify a bit earlier than History or American Studies
  13. Hello, I am applying to one American studies program and several history programs.
  14. Hello, longtime lurker here. I very much appreciate the camaraderie and information on this site. The next couple weeks should be exciting
