  1. Also, I received my letter of admission from SFSU in APRIL - which is pretty late compared to other programs. Most other MSW programs will get back to you by February or so and because of scholarships and other students on the waitlist, these programs will rarely give you an opportunity to extend your decision. Just something to think be aware of.
  2. I applied to SFSU last year with a single spaced personal statement -- and got admitted. Ultimately, I turned it down and am now attending an MSW program at Boston University. Good luck!!
  3. Hi everyone, I've just officially declined my offer from SFSU. Having lived in the Bay Area all my life, I really want to pursue graduate studies in a different environment that would allow me to grow both personally and professionally. Best of luck to all of you!
  4. Thank you everyone!! Honestly, I have already submitted my deposit for BU, looked into housing, and prepared myself mentally to move to Boston. Getting an acceptance from SFSU really caught me by surprise. With that said, I will inform everyone once I make my decision about whether or not I will be accepting the offer, and if not, hopefully it will go to someone else on the waitlist. Best of luck to all of you!
  5. I just received an email from SFSU - I got in!! Hopefully you will all be hearing good news soon!!
  6. Hi nelle_008, CONGRATS on your acceptances!! Ultimately, I chose BU because I felt that BU would be able to offer more specialized training/mentorship in the trauma certificate program, Also, BU has more professors that are currently conducting research in trauma and/or veterans, whereas BC focused a lot on aging and immigration. So I guess for me, it really came down to the research opportunities and training/mentorship offered at BU but not at BC. I hope this helps. Best of luck on your decision!
  7. @nereida - I can't seem to find the FB page. I found the 2013 and 2012 ones, but not this 2014 one. Would you mind posting the link here? Thanks!
  8. Hmmm it looks like they are informing the Title IV-E applicants before the IFG ones?? I applied to the IFG track and haven't heard back.... For those that have heard back, can you tell us how they contacted you (via email, snail mail, phone call)?? Thanks!
  9. I will be declining my offer from BC tomorrow, with a scholarship offer of $24,000. I hope it will go to another student on the waitlist!
  10. JMM, I know, so am I! Ultimately I feel like BU would be able to offer more specialized training/mentorship in the trauma certificate program, and that's a crucial selling point for me. We're all gonna be in the Boston area though and I would love to meet up!
  11. Hi all!! I've finally made a decision and have decided to join BU's Fall 2014 MSW cohort! I can't wait!!
  12. Hi ontheswpath, I grew up in the Bay Area and I definitely plan to come back a few years after I get my social work degree. As for why I applied to so many programs in the MA area - my background is in clinical research and I made it a point to apply to programs where there are professors that are conducting research in my area of interest and where I would have the opportunity to be involved in their research. The Boston area just so happened to fit the bill, and also, I figured this would be a great opportunity to live in another city for a few years before settling again in the Bay Area.
  13. JMM1020 - I really hope everything works out with financial aid! I didn't get a chance to visit the campus so I'm glad to hear that it's gorgeous! I am really looking forward to the award letter from BC. If they offer me the same (or more) scholarship as BU and Simmons, I think I will be attending BC in the fall. That said, I really like that their program allows you to choose up to two certificates; I am interested in the trauma and Veterans certificates. BU and Simmons offer one for trauma only. For those who are waitlisted at BU and/or Simmons - I feel like a total douche (I'm so, so sorry!) for holding out for so long on my BU and Simmons offers, but as soon as I receive my letter from BC, I will let these programs know so those on the waitlist will still have a chance.
  14. Good luck Guyinshorts!! Please keep us updated on where you end up!
  15. Congrats icelestial!!! I also received an email from BC about an acceptance so we may all end up being classmates (along with JMM & Nightwolf & Eunice, etc) !!!
  16. To all, Just outta curiosity, did anyone happen to notice that BU's award letter includes scholarship information for the academic year 2014/2015 only? Is it safe to assume that you will receive the same scholarship amount for the 2015/2016 academic year too? (assuming you maintain the minimum GPA and apply for financial aid again)
  17. sweetpiepear - THANK YOU for the extremely helpful advice! I will definitely have to sit down this week and weigh the pros and cons of each program. Whereas before, I wasn't sure what I should be looking for, now I do, thanks to you!
  18. Hi strathernxf2 (wow that was difficult to type correctly ), CONGRATS you to as well; you got into quite a few programs!! I have another week to decide between Simmons and BU (both are offering me similar scholarships), so I'm gonna take the advice from all of you on how to select the right program for me. THANK YOU EVERYONE! Looks like there will be quite a few of us going to Boston from the Bay Area - we should definitely meet up at some point! It would be worthwhile if only to share tips about how to make this move most cost effective, and oh, I'm already dreading the process of finding an apartment to rent in the Boston area! I will be visiting BU and Simmons College this week, so I will update anyone who is unable to make the trip themselves and would like more information. Best of luck to all of you on choosing the program that fits best with your needs!
  19. Does anyone have any idea when SFSU will get back to us??
  20. Hey Kiki, I'm in the exact same situation as you are!! I've been offered the same financial aid/scholarship package at both programs, and both programs offer a specialization/certificate in trauma studies. I'm totally new to this and have no idea what other factors to consider. I'm torn!! I cant say I have any advice as I'm in the same boat as you are, but I can definitely sympathasize. I'm attending Simmons MSW Info Session this Thursday at 6pm, are you planning to? If not and you have any questions that you'd like me to ask for you, I can definitely do that! Best of luck...I'll keep you updated with any info that I may find that will help us make this difficult decision. Jenn
