  1. Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm applying in September 2014 to start September 2015 so I'm definitely still in the beginning stages of all this. As of now, I think I'm going to aim for the good fit-great funding combo because I want to spend more time learning and less time hunting down money. (Or hunting down money for a field season rather than hunting down money for groceries.) Every minute spent on a grant application is one minute I can't spend on my studies. Also, as I munched on this question for a bit I realized that Perfect Fit University would be a school I want to teach at eventually in part because it's in a city I always have wanted to end up/put down roots in. I don't want to cut off any chance for appointment there (down the road in another life) because I have noticed academia isn't very incestuous with its professorial appointments. However, I'll leave where to study vs where to teach for another thread.
  2. I could use some advice. As I'm looking at schools, I'm finding there are schools with funding and schools with fit, and they don't usually align. If push comes to shove, would you take A. a school with a flawless fit but limited funding or B. a school is a good/ok fit with full funding?
  3. Hi everyone, I am beginning to whittle down schools to submit applications fall 2014 and start 2015. I am interested in things like rebellion, protest, migration, diaspora, and globalization but specifically how these forces affect and involve Native American/Canadian/Mexican groups. I'm interested in Latin America too, but would like to focus on North America. Does anyone know any good (and funded) programs that have a strong suit in Native American research?
  4. I am trying to decide what kind of computer I should get for grad school. My loyal little macbook has served me well, but definitely needs to be replaced for grad school. What kind of computer should I get? PC or Mac? For computers in anthropology, I do know that software compatibility and physical durability might be some key issues. Are there semi-universal software programs that are ONLY mac or PC in anthropology? Macs (in my experience) are much more physically durable than PC's, but don't play well with PC software. I know that Macs are also significantly more expensive, but can last much longer. However, if it isn't compatible with the software I need then that's not great either. I realize this is a very sensitive topic for many people and passions rise. I am a very low-tech person and don't really care about all the different specifications of different computers. Let's keep this discussion focused on how well the computer fits with ANTHROPOLOGY, not how good it is in general. What is your opinion?
