  1. To those who have been recently posting about University of Calgary's 2 year program: I have been accepted into this program but into the Clinical stream. I got the acceptance email last Wednesday the 2nd. This school was my top choice so I have already accepted the offer. In the email, it said that I had to let them know by April 15th whether I would accept/decline the offer. So seemingly, those on the waitlist would start hearing back after April 15th. However it seems as if they sent out the acceptance letters according to which stream you chose, so not sure if the ICD letters would have been sent on the same day as the Clinical ones. Anyway, hope this helps
  2. I got accepted to Laurier and U of C this year (which both require two years of full time experience, approx. 3500 hours), and my total number of combined employment/volunteer hours was 4300 hours. I wanted to let you guys know that I worked on acquiring these hours over a gradual period of time and it was not just done over two years. I volunteered a lot during my undergrad and then took one year off following my undergrad to work full time and volunteer more. I've also coached gymnastics since I was 15 so all of those hours added up. I also applied to two BSW programs this year as a backup in case I didn't get in to do my masters. My point is that you can build up your hours and experience while going to school, it doesn't necessarily have to be FULL TIME work.
  3. Hi everyone! I just accepted my offer for the 2 year MSW at the University of Calgary. I will be rejecting my offer from Laurier, so it will soon open up a spot for someone on the waiting list I was extremely shocked that I received two offers this year. This was my second year applying to grad school, I was rejected last year. For those who have been rejected or are on a waiting list, please don't give up. I know that is what everyone tells you, but if you want it bad enough, it will happen. I remember feeling like it was the end of the world when I got rejected last year, but I can honestly say that things worked out for the best and that this past year of experience has been invaluable to me, and is the reason I got accepted this year. I feel like all of the hard work that I have done over the past year has helped me to appreciate this acceptance even more than I would have last year, and has given me a new perspective. Thanks to everyone on this forum for being so supportive! It helped me to get through that agonizing wait All the best to those still waiting!
  4. Thank you! My status hasn't changed online yet, they said in the email that it would take a few days for the online system to change. It seems like they are sending the letters out according to the stream you chose because someone got accepted to the one year program like 3 weeks ago. So they probably haven't started sending out letters for the distance program yet. Good luck!!
  5. I got an acceptance email today from the University of Calgary for the 2 year clinical MSW. I am so shocked! And so excited! Have you heard anything yet? Fingers crossed for you
  6. I am also waiting to hear back from U of C, I applied for the 2 year clinical MSW. I called the department about two weeks ago to inquire about this and they just referred me to their website, where it says that they will be sending out letters via email and it may take two months to do so (posted at end of Feb). There was one person on this forum who got accepted to the one year advanced standing msw a while ago at U of C but I haven't heard anything about the distance or two year programs. It is comforting to hear that there are others still waiting to hear back as well. I have been accepted to Laurier and have to accept the offer by April 14th so I am hoping we will hear from Calgary by then! Please let me know if you hear anything
  7. Sure, my total hours for combined volunteer and employment experiences was 4300 hours. I noticed that someone else mentioned on this forum that they suggested going back to high school on your resume, and that is what I did as well. Besides my major employment and volunteer hours, I have been a gymnastics coach since I was 15 so that contributed quite a few hours, and I added on a bunch of smaller volunteer projects that I've done.. it all adds up!
  8. I applied for U of Calgary's 2 year MSW program and still haven't heard anything either. At the end of February they put something on their website that said they have started to issue admission results but it may take up to two months to do so ... such a long wait ... let me know if you hear anything!
  9. Erin123, Thank you! I will definitely celebrate tonight. I'm happy to share some of my experience. I actually did 5 years of university, and then took this year off to get some work experience. I took a bachelor of fine arts first, and then one year of only psychology courses. I volunteered with two art therapy groups during my undergrad. One was at a forensic hospital working with people who have been found not criminally responsible due to mental illness, and the other was through an early psychosis program. I worked for 7 months as a counselor in a group home, and am currently employed full time at a recreation club for adults with intellectual disabilities. My gpa in my last year was 3.9. Hope this helps, and good luck to everyone, fingers crossed for all of you!
  10. I just received an acceptance email for the 2 year MSW program at Wilfrid Laurier! I am ecstatic and still in shock. The emails are coming soon, everyone!
  11. I applied for the 2 year program at Laurier and haven't heard anything yet! I will be obsessively checking my email now. Congrats to those who have been accepted!!
  12. Yes I agree! I have a bit of a mixed background, started out in fine arts and have done lots of volunteering with art therapy groups. I've also taken some psychology and right now am working full time at a recreation club for adults with intellectual disabilities
  13. Thanks for writing back! I saw that on their website too. Just out of curiosity, do you mind me asking what kind of experience you are applying with? It's so nice having others on this site to chat with about this process
  14. Has anyone heard back from the two year program at University of Calgary? Someone on this forum got an acceptance letter last week into the one year program but I haven't heard anything about the two year
