Yeah, I'm assuming I'm rejected from all the ones I haven't heard back from yet but was wondering when they finally get around to confirming that. Or does Cornell admin assume the 1% not knowing is part of the fun of applying? From the results page I guess most rejections/waitlist emails go out next week.

That's what they said on my rejection letter too: " am sorry to inform you that we cannot recommend your admission to the graduate program in history. We have given your application close and careful consideration. Our decision is based on a full assessment of the evidence presented to us. We received nearly 150 applications for 10 places in our incoming class, and the department is unable to offer admission to every qualified candidate.

Sorry mate ! How did the Baylor interview go though? I am pretty sure I had a dream after a drunken last night where Baylor was mentioned somewhere. Assuming that is a sign from the alcohol gods that you nailed it. When are they going to start rejecting people you think?

I've already had a few so this isn't saying much, but I'm down like a clown for the AHA conference.

Haha, you are modest! That many acceptances cannot be a fluke. We need a gradcafe get-together...I reckon you should be in charge of organizing it.
-
UNC was a fluke trust me! I almost feel guilty at getting accepted ...almost.

How cool would that be? On the EALC website this bit worried me re funding: How many applicants are admitted with funding? This varies each year, but generally between 30-50% of the incoming group receive some kind of funding. Only a few top-ranked candidates can be nominated for central fellowships (which include merit-based fellowships and merit-with-diversity fellowships) from the Graduate Division. Others might receive departmental funding if it is available. Still others come in with their own extramural funding. (see http://www.ed.gov/programs/jacobjavits/index.html) – any Humanities student may apply for this before and during their first year of graduate study only. International Applicants: Unfortunately it is very seldom that international students are awarded funding through our department, as the costs of supporting their non-resident fees and tuition each term are quite high. Please note that international applicants must examine all funding sources carefully to make sure they qualify – many are restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

I applied to their EALC dept. (the POI I emailed preferred me applying there rather than History and introduced me to two other profs who were very nice and helpful). Was told they would give their decisions end of this month. Taking forever.I reckon funding will be an issue there though regardless of whether I get in.

Wow! Had you accepted an offer from a different uni at the time?
-
Good luck with the interview!

Congrats to all those waitlisted at Michigan! Fingers crossed that comes through. I don't funding should be a problem there at all...I am assuming everyone gets a pretty decent package as PhD entrants. Haven't heard jack from them so shall be expecting my rejection from the blind pigeon service.

I'll stop being a whiny so and so...good luck to everyone this week! Ellebelle/JJWS/Josh, I feel a big admit coming for you all this week
-
Glad I'm not the only one! I should just forget about it for another 7-10 days and not worry about it. Or just drink myself into the ground so this week is a blur.

When am I going to get my bloody rejections from: Michigan, Wisconsin, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell and UC Santa Barbara (EALC)? Itching to accept UNC but I know it would be silly since I spent so much time and money on the others to not even wait for their decision!

Marte108: Yeah, I think aside from the language I think having experience working in between academia (maybe abroad) would be great as Ashiepoo suggests. I don't think it's a must of course, but I think it may be seen as an important life experience that might be seen as an ingredient that makes a well-rounded/mature graduate student who is about to go through a rigorous and, at time, extremely difficult times in grad school. It would be nice to get feedback from other universities you applied to as well regarding your research topic. Sounds promising though that Emory liked it so much. But I know from my experience emailing POI's that some really liked the route I was taking with my research topic whereas others wanted me to tweak it. So it would be good to get a feel of how they look at your topic so you can tailor for each university you go for. I would also look to see if you can go to any conferences where new research is being presented (especially in your area). Meet potential POIs, other PhD students in your area and get some good ideas. So no chance this cycle? Have any of the programs you applied for suggested you do an MA with them instead? Good luck!
-
Hey! Congrats to you too
-
All we need is to get into one! At least that was my idea going into this cycle. You will get one or more acceptances this coming week. Fingers crossed.
-
What does accidentally rejected mean though? A clerical error on their part but you are actually admitted?
-
Damn! Was hoping that meant all the results were out. They take in around 20 grad students approx/year though right? Don't see that many admits on the results page yet. Reckon you have a great chance still.
