Did other UNC applicants get an email re decision being available on the website? I got my decision last week but got an email today re it being available on the system.
-
Good luck mate, the wait must be so frustrating! Personally hoping you get the UNC acceptance ASAP. I like your status update btw...
-
Amazing! Congrats
-
Congrats! You've had a brilliant cycle and plenty of great departments to choose from. Congrats to all the other admits.
-
congrats to all the Madison admits!
-
ellebe: haha agreed! Just as a final note: I've had terrible negligence negligence in the care to some of my family... it certainly has a lot of flaws and urgent improvements are needed, which I doubt will be implemented in the current environment. I lived near Camden for 2 of those three years too! Either way, good luck with your apps

I'm a Brit applying to study Japanese History in the US! Free healthcare is a beautiful thing isn't it? People complain about the NHS in the UK but I still think it's an incredible institution. How are you liking London? Despite only living there for 3 years, it's probably the only place I can consider "home." The one funding package I've got so far included healthcare. Ashiepoo is the expert I'm guessing considering she has like 5 admits so far!
-
Now I wish I could go to mine!
-
Amazing! Decided against applying there right at the end. Jealous!
-
ellebe: I've been living in London, Doha and (now) Tokyo over the past 4/5 years but am more than happy moving to a small-ish university town. Having said that, living in San Fran/New York would've been amazing too. Are you from the States originally like JJWS? How do you like London? I went into the process applying to 12 places thinking I'd be satisfied even if I just got into one, as long as it was funded. As I only applied to places I'd be happy to be. If I get can get into a program, I think you and everyone else here will too! Curious to find out where you all end up going. I'm with Ashiepoo on the idea of doing something you love. Getting paid to study Japanese history and do my research under the supervision of a great professor sounds like a dream come true.
-
Thanks! Shame about Northwestern...I'm sure you'll get some acceptances from the others soon. What's your top choice among the rest? Cheers! Yeah, the relationship with Duke sounds really interesting. Looking forward to exploring that opportunity. Really hope you get your acceptance next week. Would be brilliant.
-
Cheers! From everything I've read, sounds like a great place to study.
-
What about on-campus living as a grad student? Odum village looks like the option available. Anyone had experiences living there or being there? Looking forward to moving there in August.
-
ashiepoo: Would love to but it will be tough heading over there from here. It was a bit weird hearing the great news of getting in on the same day as a the tragic shootings there. Have you been there? Was just doing some reading on living there etc. right now.
-
ashiepoo: I was really interested in going there but after the interview with my POI there, I am convinced it is the perfect fit. Now that I got in there, I don't mind getting rejected everywhere else! Having said all that, I spent a lot of time and money on those applications so shall wait till they all come out and have a decision to make would be nice. With your results so far looks like you will probably get into both of those as well. Bloomington is a great place, good luck! You have some interesting decisions to make in April.
-
Sounds like a great place to study. Good Luck!

Do they do interview people at Baylor generally? In the history department that is? When I had the interview at UNC my former professors and others with some knowledge of the admissions process say that is a sign that they really want you. Sorry about Yale and Stanford...I didn't get into the latter either! What's your area of research?
-
Wow, sounds like someone was having a rough day in the UT-Austin's admin department.
-
Sorry Josh! Congrats on Baylor and good luck with the rest! What would be your top choice at the moment from the ones you are still to hear back from?
-
I missed your UCSB acceptance (I think...looks like one or two more than when I last saw it)! You are on a roll! Who are you really looking forward to hearing back from now? I think you mentioned IU? I got my IU rejection letter earlier this week, so I am hoping that means you have a good shot. I'm at 2 acceptances (UCLA MA and UNC PhD) 4 rejections (IU, Stanford, UW, and Princeton), and still waiting on Columbia, Wisconsin-Madison, Michigan Ann-Arbor, Cornell, UCSanta Barbara (EALC) and Harvard (only expecting to get into UCSB out of all those 6 though).
-
That's true, it doesn't take much to draft a decent letter.
-
Yeah, it took a while after they sent me the email for the page to get updated with the letter.
-
Me too...I don't particularly care whether the rejection letter is nice/long/personal etc. in all honesty though This is what their rejection letter looks like (short and not sweet): "Your application for admission to graduate study at Stanford University has been carefully and thoroughly reviewed by the History Department's Admissions Committee. I regret to inform you that we are unable to admit you to the graduate program next year. The number of applicants for graduate study in our Department far exceeds the number we can admit. Many strong candidates in all fields are turned down. I sincerely hope that you secure admission to another program and that you will find a way to continue your interest in history. The Department of History wishes you success and thanks you for your interest in Stanford University."
-
I'm really sorry! I got the same letter as well. You have a broad list of great programs so don't sweat it. Got confirmation from UNC over admission an hour later so I'm not too bothered if all the rest get rejected either (have 7/12 pending)!
-
Wow! Not one Japanese historian (not that I would've been picked regardless).
