Thank you so much. I just had an interview with CAL and got rejected. I have gotten in a few schools on the east coast (Boston, Simmons, etc.), but I realized shortly after applying that being in the cold is not my thing. Currently, I am waiting for a couple other schools, but Washu is definitely a school I am considering given it's location and prestige. I am currently waiting for some California state schools because I am a little concerned about costs. So have you decided?

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your thoughtful insight and information.

Hey everyone, is anyone going to WashU? I am considering going there but nervous and concerned about loans? Thoughts?
-
Yeah I assume that but has anyone heard from SJSU recently? Are they still picking their students? Or are they full?
-
My app still stays referred to graduate department. Has anyone's status changed to admitted?
-
Let's hope for all of us...

Hey sorry for being super late in replying but yep that is it. Lets see what happens.

For those that had their interview for Title 4E, when did you have the interview and how long did it take for you to hear back about their decision?
-
I would say Pitt, think about the finances and they are a really good program.

I wish you all the best of luck on your future endeavors. I will make my decision regarding Boston this week. I will most likely not go to BU because of the daunting costs. However, I hope you enjoy it on the east coast. I am going to try my luck out here and stay in California, so wish me luck. When you all decide to come back to CA, I'll be your guy (hopefully with networks) to help or assist you all in getting established. Just remember one thing: The west coast is the best coast (had to do it) [no argument can contest the aforementioned statement] lol I am totally joking if I accidentally offend people. Send positive thoughts and energy my way for the schools in CA! Please message me if you haven't already done so in order to exchange contacts for the future. It is a tough world out there, so us social workers need to stick together

Quick question, would Berkeley interview someone for a scholarship if they did not think they were qualified? I am just trying to get perspective because results are near. Thank you!

How much student loan debt is too much?
guyinshortsallday replied to casualrunnergal's topic in Social Workers Forum
I am in your shoes. I am waiting for other schools and also seeing if I can get a better financial package. I am not about to get into 100K debt. I hope you don't either. -
yeah, I am a very logical and rational person, and 100K for any school regarding social work is not happening regardless of programs that help you pay for your debt. Unfortunately, nothing in the future is ever guaranteed, and I cannot rely on these other programs when I do not know literally what will happen to me or them.

I AM SO JEALOUS RIGHT NOW!!! I always say, "If it is FREE, it is for ME." You probably know my answer where to go. Also, it is funny that they called you and said they made a mistake and offered to give you a full ride out of thin air because I called them talking about financial aid and they said due to limited funding, there are no more resources being given out. Everyone now is on a current wait list (clearly that is a lie). This is why I am waiting for other schools admission decision so I don't waste my $300 fund towards funding another student and their lies of not having resources! lol

USC, UCLA, CSULB, CSUDH MSW 2014

We are in the same boat!!! -
To everyone who got partial and full scholarships congratulations! It definitely puts me at ease to know that I am not the only one who is worried about the cost of BU. The way my financial package looks now (11:28 PM, Feb. 20 2014 LOL), I am almost sure I will have to take out every loan possible to fund my education as well as living expenses for at least the first year. I know a friend of my went to UPenn and she actually owes 100K+ because she was in the exact situation. Although i talked to her earlier today and she seems to be happy, it is daunting the amount she owes. She is currently starting her loan forgiveness which will require her to pay 120 consecutive payments for 10 years straight while she is working for full time. I know that I am at a really good spot because BU is a phenomenal school, so if I do not get into anywhere else, I know I will go there and force to take out all loans. But my logic and gut feeling at this point is for me to wait on state school decisions. A state school in California would cost be 20,000 for two years compared to the 100K I will have to pay at other schools. My only concern is the brand/name. I have read all the other blogs as well, and it really boils down to personal values; I am just internally conflicted.

Yeah, I figured. It is just so discouraging because it feels like I am almost willing to commit and purchase a product i really don't know how I am going to finance. I am probably going to have to take loans for all of my MSW program if I decide to go to BU. Is anyone else in a similar predicament? What are your thoughts on the cost of the school and program with the idea of the return rate? I am not pursuing an MSW for the money, but I definitely want to be able to live a basic lifestyle. I am so sorry to hear. They have not responded to me yet, so I will let you know what happens. Thank you all for providing support, knowledge, and advice. I am was the first generation graduate in my family, now I feel lost again as I am the first one again to pursue a graduate degree. (--__--)

I also got into BU (found out yesterday February 18), but I am really concerned with the financial package. Did any of you received aid? I received federal direct unsubsidized loans which were expected, but the amount did not cover tuition fully and also take in consider my living costs? Is anyone in a similar predicament. Also, they are giving me about 1 week and a few days to make the decision with a 300 deposit. Anyone receive an extension?

Hello, I also got accepted into BU, but I am really concerned about my financial package. It was very brief and did not cover the total cost for tuition or even consider my living expenses. How are you funding your education?
