  1. He says that they will probably admit some more (not many, though), and my future cannot be predicted... Why don't you just kill me instead of this... (Not to mention one faculty member sending an email to me as an admit but later apologize for her mistake) But congrats to that lucky guy, whoever he/she is! (Again, I did not ask for this piece of information.)
  2. The director in USC just emailed me that they have admitted one folk off the waitlist and it's not me. No decision has been made regarding the rest of waitlist
  3. I agree. But I guess the prof means something like: to allow a little bit of difference in social life to affect your happiness to the extent that cripples your work is a bit too self-indulging.
  4. I still have not heard from ohio state. I have emailed their admission director several times but got no response. Any suggestions? I also did not hear from UCSB. But I don't care much.
  5. I was wondering about how the reimbursement for travel cost works. Suppose I plan to visit A and then B and finally C, who is responsible for what? For example, should A be responsible for the travel from A to B? And so on. I am totally inexperienced, sorry if the question is silly. I'll try to ask each department but not sure how to ask it.
  6. I haven't heard from OSU either. Is it just us? Do anyone hear know what's going on?
  7. Just become a awesome philosopher and shake the world so I know that I lose to a worthy guy.
  8. The result page seems to show that Columbia, at least, has sent out waitlists...
  9. I would like to say something about my case that might support lesage13's suggestion: I emailed USC asking if there is any movement in the waitlist - yes, just that, didn't ask where I am on the list. And USC replied with an invitation to visit their campus, fully funded. My sense is that they (maybe the nice ones) will invite you and fund your visit if they want to, without your asking. To Philstudent: I will visit USC and syracuse too. To add: if anyone is curious, they replied that there is no movement in waitlist so far.
  10. Congrats to all Princeton admits! A bit more hope of getting off USC waitlist! Just a little bit...
  11. This may be a silly question: but if I want to make a personal website, what is the usual way to do so?
  12. What the fuck is going on with the result page? Cornell acceptance via postal mail? Columbia rejections?
  13. I laughed really hard. Thanks. You are absolutely right and I like your recommendation. When I wrote down 古来圣贤几人回, I was apparently thinking about Li Bai's 古来圣贤皆寂寞,惟有饮者留其名 (All sages in history were solitary, Except those drinkers who left their glory)。 In any case, I was drunk.
  14. 醉卧沙场君莫笑,古来圣贤几人回? If we lay drunk on the battlefield sands, do not laugh, m'friend! Since time began, how many have come back at battles' end? Just to add some Chinese flavor to the thread.
  15. URGENT question: does anybody know when approximately OSU will send out waitlists? Thanks!
  16. I second that it's a good idea to apply to a variety of schools. My personal situation (although by no means typical) is that top 10 schools reject me, top 10-30 either admit or waitlist me, and top 30-50 schools admit me with university fellowship. It's fun to see such a solid structure. And by the way, I do not tailor my personal statement to department so my fit alone might not weigh much in their consideration of my application.
  17. I am also personally very grateful for the funding package in philosophy phd program. The tuition remission and stipend usually add up to more than 60k a year. Nothing I do for the department, I think, deserve that amount of money. Remember that Kant had to teach 7 courses (?) to survive. PHD is such a luxury!
  18. Waitlisted at USC, Arizona and UT Austin. Wonder the chance of getting off those lists...
  19. zblaesi, I suspect that though your application is excellent, there are a lot of other excellent applicants, so any worry could become substantial ("not distinctively philosophical", "the conclusion is not too interesting eventually"). Also, I wonder whether you only applied to the top programs, for it seems that overall you have a good chance for getting into a decent place.
  20. I would recommend falling in love with someone, which may completely obliterate the thoughts related to checking TGC. Also, I recommend against activities using internet: too much exposure to both meaninglessness and TGC.
  21. Haha, you are certainly right. I was just being sarcastic, since it's daytime anyway and no need to sleep. But, it's my first rejection among completed applications, and I have had fondness for the program. So, yeah, just a little bit sad.
  22. Yes, you are. I am so devastated by the rejection that I cannot sleep.
