  1. Nothing, but I after much consideration I switched to another school. Nothing against UT, they are a premier school, but my ultimate choice just fit better with my current situation. Please don't take this as rude- but, if you are planning to study at a university you need to get in contact with them and ask them directly. Keep asking and digging. If you do not get an email response, then call. If you no one answers, call someone else. (But, having worked with UT on this exact matter, I can promise you that Ms. Hart will respond and give you clear and concise guidance). Everything you get from the forums will be second hand information that will inevitably require you to call them anyways. On a related note though- I believe the TX schools were on Spring break last week, so responses may have been slow.
  2. Got the official "we regret to inform you" email today. It's still a good day if that's the worst news that I get. For next years applicants or those searching the forum next fall about the GEM process, my story is- Applied for early consideration in OCT13. Went from unmatched to matched in Mid-DEC13. Stayed matched until early MAR14 when my status switched to released. Did not get contacted by any GEM employers. Engineering BS from an American military academy (3.6). 5 years as an officer. Getting out of the military and Pursuing a MS petroleum engineering. GRE (161/163/5.5)
  3. My status just switched from matched to released. Agree with Manifestin in that it was probably targeted at US citizens, as most of the jobs require citizenship and security clearance. Good catch on the service requirement- I think the 4 year commitment to Sandia after the Masters is a deal breaker.
  4. Did all of you guys get the email from GEM about applying to Sandia National Labs?
  5. Yeah, I was sitting at work today thinking the same thing. I called them to poke around a bit and they held their ground on Mar 14th (maybe 15th... I can't remember) being their final day. He said reaching out to your potential employers through the GEM website may not be a bad idea. Guys will still get phone calls up until the last day. That being said, I personally am starting to prepare to execute my contingency plans for this summer (aka stay on active duty until school starts).
  6. I got word back that I'm in at UT. Nothing from A&M/OU/or Texas Tech yet. Applied for the GEM fellowship, but no word on that either.
  7. Yeah, when I talked to her yesterday she made it sound like those accepted in the first 2 rounds already know. My impression though (or at least what I'm telling myself) is that you selection round is going to be based on when whichever company you fall under tackles the process. It's not the NFL draft, 3rd round doesn't mean you unqualified. It just means you drew the short stick get to neurotically check your email for a few more weeks.
  8. Just talked to GEM and they said they had been through 2 of 3 selection rounds already. The final round will be closed out by mid-March. They are planning to send out an email early next week. They said that matched just means that a company is reviewing your application. And, that declaring your intended university does not mess with the company internship process. They said they are two seperate entities. Cheers.
