  1. Clinical programs are insanely competitive. When I went to talk to professors to get advice about applying to Ph.D. programs last fall, I was surprised to find out that two of my favorite professors (one in personality and one in developmental) had applied their first time to clinical Ph.D.'s and got rejected across the board. They both ended up applying the following year to research programs and are now tenured faculty. Obviously, this is not necessarily the path for you and if you love clinical work, then you should definitely apply to clinical programs again next year. I just thought it was interesting because both of these professors are brilliant and they too got rejected from clinical programs!
  2. I totally understand and agree with you. I had one of the offers for less than a week and I was told by one of the programs I was accepted to that they do not use a wait list - they just accept a certain number and whoever accepts the offer is their cohort. I do think it is important to be conscientious of those on wait lists and I hope that you get into the school of your choice.
  3. That's great! I feel the same way about the intellectual community - Looking forward to August!
  4. Thanks! ps. The Phantom Tollbooth was my favorite book as a kid!!!
  5. I just made my acceptance official and told two other schools I would not be attending. They were very difficult emails to write, but I hope they allow someone off a waitlist - both had good funding. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear and to those trying to make difficult decisions between competing offers!
  6. Does anyone have any advice re: looking for a place in Berkeley if you have a dog? I'd ideally be biking distance from campus and prefer to have roommates. Is craigslist my best bet?
  7. Congrats everyone!! On to the next challenge -- finding affordable housing...
  8. PhoenixKing -- thanks! it is quite a relief! I'm sure it is program-specific. I received an email from my POI about a week and a half after my interview letting me know I would be accepted. It was about another week after that before I received the official offer. My opinion is that it never hurts to email your POI and reaffirm your interest in the program and ask about timeline/if there is any other information you can provide, etc.
  9. I got my official letter today!! Congrats everyone!
  10. I got my email offer last Thurs. and was told I would get the official offer letter and funding information the first week in March - so hopefully we'll all get them next week!
  11. It's my first choice school, so pretty sure! (unless funding is not what I was told it would be...) And, yes, the email acceptance makes me nervous too!!!
  12. Me either! Just the email acceptance - supposed to get the rest next week. I've heard this is the norm for Berkeley.
  13. Anyone heading to Berkeley this fall?
