I'm not applying next year because although I was rejected from six schools I got into one that I like, and that's all that matters. So next year I will be securely esconced in my ivory tower. But good luck next year- the process is so awful in so many ways. If there are fewer applicants, at least that's one perk!

My unis also seem to think silence is a great way to deal with applicants (maybe it's a test, lol). And thanks for the commiserations about Yale. I'm not too bothered though, especially since I already have an acceptance I would be happy at (isn't that the case with you too?). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you too- may you have the luxury of choice

I got the letter of doom from Yale as well- commiserations. But actually it wasn't my favourite of the unis I applied to, so I'm not that bothered! I just wish Cornell and UVA would let me know already!

Congrats on your CUA acceptance! Did they give you any details about the course/funding etc.? How does it feel to know that you can DEFINITELY go to grad school next year ?

Yep, I'm really pleased . Still no word from the others, though (including UVA). While the sample size is TINY and I hate to conjecture about this crazy-ass process, the fact that you, me and another Medievalist on the board haven't heard could mean that they haven't done medieval acceptances/rejections yet...

Actually I didn't apply to JHU- I think minnares mentions it on my profile because she's watching results pop up for it while I'm doing the same for UVA! Good luck, though !

Thanks minnares! As Branwen says, we're all in the same boat (and oh what a crappy boat it is). Good luck with application results- they should be coming out soon, right? Both too soon and not soon enough for me...eek!

I would definitely recommend the Pratchetts since Thud. Going Postal and Making Money were great fun! I also love the young adult series about Tiffany Aching. I have most of them, except my sis keeps 'borrowing' them and taking them back to the States with her!

Okay, you've been making so many Pratchett references that I just had to comment! The man is a legend. Have you read the new one yet?
