  1. I hope someone sends me an acceptance, because I'm not sure I have the heart to do a third round of applications. MA and PhD were plenty!
  2. Get drunk, or go have a spa day. You're even more wound up than I am! I mean, you really only have two options: 1) give them another call, if you dare, or 2) wait it out as patiently as humanly possible. This whole process is a pain in the keister.
  3. Bah! I just got dinged via postal service. I knew the result when I saw my notification came via snail mail. *sigh*
  4. I don't really need to mean anything at the moment -- I'm writing a thesis. =)

    Languages

I could stand to brush up on two of my many poorly-spoken/read languages for research purposes, but yeah... the only reason I would truly need to have a strong language ability in U.S. History is for the departmental qualifications. German and French might be marginally helpful for journal articles treating continental/Atlantic history, but if you're studying Modern Midwest Farm History, or something similarly anglocentric, there's little point. I guess it depends on your research. It could be essential, or completely irrelevant.
  6. Sorry, guys. I saw the results on the board, and my heart sank. I knew a bunch of my fellow history nerds were waiting on this school. If it helps, my only response has been a rejection from my dream program on Valentine's Day. The gf was less than thrilled about that. Chin up. Plenty more schools to hear from. =)
  7. True enough, but most of the folks I've talked to from Montana say they cheer for the Vikings and the Wild (Minnesota sports teams, in case any of you have the same blank expression as my girlfriend just drew). They can be honorary Minnesotans, if they like. p.s. Minnesota considers itself "The Northland." We don't like being lumped in with Iowa, or people who believe cheese is a fashion accessory. =)
  8. I can't tell if 'no news is good news' with this program, or not. I know for another program I'm waiting on, the longer the wait drags on, the better my chances (they send emails to rejected folks, and snail mail letters to acceptees). We need more information from the people who have already been notified.
  9. It's kind of backwards that they send email rejections and snail mail acceptances.
  10. Yeah. Everyone hates those people sitting on 12 acceptances until March 15th, at precisely 11:59pm. As if you were considering each and every one of your offers that closely. We need to keep the waitlists moving.
  11. Like female dwarves, it's a common misconception to think that there is no history subject test. It's just that nobody uses it. But, yes, I agree with Rising. There are only subject tests for a small minority of disciplines.
  12. Again, let's keep this topic on track. The question had nothing to do with the validity or usefulness of standardized testing. If that's what you would like to discuss, start a new thread, please. The subject obviously chaps some people's hides. =)
  13. Frontline. Unbiased. Scoff.
  14. Yeah. Whether or not they update it, I'm going to keep on checking until I hear word back. =)
  15. My MA was well-funded, which is one of the reasons I chose it. There are plenty of funded MAs out there, but I think most of them have earlier deadlines.
  16. With or without funding? I doubt there are many funded options left.
  17. Mandy Moore must really bother me, then. =) Most joking aside, I have learned to distrust my dreams. I had a dream about my top choice accepting me with a huge funding package, two weeks ago. The next morning I woke up and checked their website to find out that I was rejected. So much for prophecy!
  18. Who got the phone call for U Dub (Seattle) tonight? And at what time? I don't think it was on the results wall an hour ago, and it's 10:30 on the East Coast.
  19. Nice job! Things like this make the weekend more bearable. Let's hope for more good news for everyone.
  20. Yeah. I'm out of country, so who knows if the mail is just being slow as usual, or if I might get the happy phone call or email eventually. blaise, you say you're checking the website. Do you mean the area where it just tells you your application has been successfully submitted? I'm not sure whether that gets updated or not, or if they do update where it would show up. Any ideas?
  21. That, or the schools just misplace, ermm... I mean never received them. Must have been that naughty post office, again!
  22. I moved this one to Arts, so you might get a better response. Humanities would be a tough sell for music, and ethnomusicology et al. are more likely social sciences.
  23. Okay, this is the last of the four that I remember people asking for. If more universities need their own thread to keep the general history discussion a bit cleaner, go ahead and add them in the format below: Full School Name Year
  24. Still waiting. Is anyone with me? I know a couple of us got dinged already. =(
  25. Here ya go.
