  1. Admitted to the MLS program at Minnesota-Duluth for this upcoming fall! Anyone else going into a MLS/Liberal Arts program?
  2. Got an e-mail from the graduate director congratulating me on my acceptance!!! I'm so happy. Is there any other UMD-bound students here?
  3. I'm applying to the MLS program at the U of M-Duluth. It's a relatively new program, started last fall, but I was drawn by the offered emphasis of Global Indigenous Studies. By taking courses in American Indian Studies and Geography, I hope to get into an American Studies phd program or a Geography program. Like a an earlier poster said, many schools offer these programs, my undergrad alma mater, St. Cloud State calls their interdisciplinary degree "Special Studies".
  4. Still no decision from UMD..i contacted a PoI in the department, and he seemed frustrated that the admissions committee had not met yet, and it sounds like this Friday might be the next available day. I assume this department doesn't have to follow the April 15th deadline. :/ I just want to find out soon...
  5. Still no word from UMD...hopefully I'll hear something this week, the U of M system spring break is next week I think. Maybe we should have a GradCafe meet up in the summer or fall?
  6. I'm still waiting to hear back from Minnesota-Duluth. I turned in my application first week of February, and e-mailed a POI a couple of weeks ago. They told me that they were still trying to work out a date for the admissions committee to meet. Their spring break starts this weekend, so if I don't hear back by Monday or Tuesday, I assume I won't hear back until at least the 31st. Sigh....
  7. Thank you! Interestingly enough, UMD was one of my top choices for my undergrad school. So maybe this is a twist of fate that Id be pursuing my graduate studies here instead?. I admittedly don't know too much about places to go off-campus, so if you had any insight on that, that would be much appreciated.
  8. No news yet..I e-mailed one of the POIs last week and they told me that the committee was still trying to nail down a time to meet and review files. So hopefully this week is the week!! I'm from the Twin Cities, but I've visited Duluth a few times. I may have a few questions, however! When I brainstorm them, I'll PM.
  9. Still waiting on a decision from Minnesota-Duluth. The graduate committee was supposed to have met last week to make a decision, so I'm hoping to hear something any day now.
  10. I've been waiting for about a month to hear back from UMD about my master's program application...still no word, even though the committee was supposed to have met already..but I did get an e-mail from the University regarding a contract for on-campus housing. Is this a unintentional way of telling me I got accepted? I don't want to get too optimistic, but I don't know if they submit applications to people who haven't been accepted yet?
  11. $75 for the application fee $20 for an MAT prep book $85 for the MAT test itself So about $180 bucks, which isn't bad, but still, way pricier than the $20 I paid for my undergrad app.
  12. Yup...after an hour, the page allowed me to log back in...still "Awaiting Program Decision". Ahhh!!!!
  13. I tried to log into my ApplyYourself page and it gave me a message saying "We are unable to process your login request at this time." I tried a couple different times and got the same message..this is either a very poorly timed error, or they're looking at my file/changing my application status!!! This is getting unbearable!!
  14. Still waiting on an official decision from UMD, but I figured I'd get a thread started for those of us applying to/admitted to the University of Minnesota at either the Twin Cities or Duluth campus this fall!
  15. Duluth and the North Shore region tends to get a larger amount of snow and is consistently colder than most of Minnesota, due to the semi-ocean influence of Lake Superior. Maybe for my PhD, I'll take a look at Berkeley or UCLA. I've lived in Minnesota all of my life so I guess I'm mostly acclimated to this stuff. It still sucks though.
  16. First time posting...the program I'm applying to (University of Minnesota Duluth-Master of Liberal Studies) told me they would be making a decision this week..now I'm checking the application status page almost hourly. The ironic thing is that while the weather here in the Twin Cities is terrible, the winter weather in Duluth is worse! It's a good thing I really like the program and the school (and its heated tunnels and skyways between buildings).
