  1. I take that back, as soon as I posted this University of Michigan accepted me to the masters program. Better than nothing I guess!
  2. So it's been two (very long feeling) weeks since I started this post and I have still yet to hear from: Waiting on admission status: University of Washington - Seattle University of Michigian - Ann Arbor Northwestern University University of Minnesota (Final Review Status) Cornell University Michigian State University (I was invited (and funded) to visit and tour, but I haven't heard back yet after that visit) Waiting on funding: University of Wisconsin - Madison (the letter said mid march - april) Should I start sending out emails to the departments to get my status?
  3. I'm still waiting on six schools, hopefully soon!
  4. Hey all, I was accepted to the PhD Electrical Engineering program back in January. I am still considering this school as I wait to hear back from other schools. I have yet to hear back on any funding from the department. When I emailed they were nice enough not to get my hopes up by saying that only about 10% of incoming PhD students get funded in my program...still hopeful though. They said I would know sometime between mid march and early April if I get offered funding.
  5. ...and then there were 6...

  6. Today will be the day I hear from...7 left still waiting

  7. Oh how I'd like to hear from some more of my schools...

hang in there! I feel you...

  8. Stats are important, but some other factors that are just as important are: Statement of Purpose Letters of Recommendation Program fit (how well your past research, and future intended research, fits into the universities program) PhD vs MS To be honest there is no guaranteed way to say if you will get in or not. I would start and look at the past 2 years information on the search results tool on the forum. You should get a good idea of what the school is looking for when it comes to average stats admitted. Although it is a good estimation, you will see some individuals with amazing stats, publications in top journals, and outstanding past research...still can get rejected for whatever reason. Make sure you have a handful of schools when applying. Best of luck to you!

You know you really want Gwen and not MJ.

  10. It also depends on the school.
  11. Same here, I'm waiting another 10 or so days before I start asking.
  12. For what it's worth in my opinion your potential letter sounds professional, logical, and friendly.
  13. Here are the schools I am still waiting on to be accepted or rejected (possibly waitlisted?), I wanted to see if anyone else is still waiting like me. Waiting on admission status: University of Washington - Seattle University of Michigian - Ann Arbor Northwestern University University of Colorado - Boulder University of Minnesota Cornell University Michigian State University (I was invited (and funded) to visit and tour, but I haven't heard back yet after that visit) Waiting on funding: University of Wisconsin - Madison (the letter said mid march - april) I think I am going to wait 2 more weeks then start calling departments if I haven't heard back. What does everyone else think?
  14. It's still early, I'd give it 2 more weeks then call your graduate schools you haven't heard from yet. I haven't heard from 7 of mine still.
  15. My acceptance so far was generic compared to these... "Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you of your addmission to xyz program for Fall 2014. XYZ is a renowed institution and you have been selected from a very qualified group of applicants", the rest went on to say what happens if I don't send yet another set of offical transcripts with degree posted.
  16. I found this document on google that explains some of our rights as potential graduate students, here is the link to the pdf http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDMQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myacpa.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2FApril%252015%2520GA%2520Resolution%2520FAQ%2520(rev.%25202010).pdf&ei=1ysSU5-UPIz2oATf-YHIBA&usg=AFQjCNGo4l78b4_H9OpV33IKxKtBThP1-g&sig2=iPgRS0Jh3OuxDGsatxs4YA&bvm=bv.62286460,d.cGU&cad=rja Inside that document it shows a website of all schools that are required to participate, I would look and see if your school is on the list. Here is a link to that document www.cgsnet.org/portals/0/pdf/CGS_Resolution.pdf from what I understand if your school is in the list you can accept or decline all you want before the 15th of April. After that date it is considered a binding contract. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD AS FACT, this is only what I have heard and found online. I would get more information from students at that school if possible.

  19. 11 applications avg $75 Gre $200 Gre extra scores $25 x 7 Gre prep $500 Official Transcripts School 1 $20 x 7 Official Transcripts School 2 $12 x 7 Unofficial transcripts weren't accepted for some apps I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting, but approximate total is $1924.. so $2000 give or take $100
  20. Good advice ERR_Alpha, look into places you can see yourself living, look into the programs. I also did 11, but I started out around 30 and started narrowing down from there. Also something to note is to have a safety school, because like a lot of us who dream for the top 10 even if you have the stats for it doesn't mean you'll get in. Out of my 11, I'd say around 1/3 were dreams/long shots.
  21. I say spend the money, you never really know about a place till you visit it in person.
  22. I have seen a few other people on the results page get accepted to University of Wisconsin for Fall 2014 PhD EE/ECE and I was wondering if anyone has heard of funding. I got an email from the department asking if I was going to accept and enroll for the fall semester, but I haven't heard if there is going to be any funding yet.
  23. Alas sweet sweet rejection.
  24. I haven't heard from the majority of my applications either way and I'm also starting to get worried. Granted they arent top 10 schools more like top 30, but the waiting is starting to get to me.
