  1. Heading off to UC Santa Barbara in the Fall. Full funding for five years. Incredibly excited.
  2. I'm still waitlisted, so not quite sure how I feel. I'm working on my teaching credential, though, as a backup.
  3. Haha, Between Fields. Way to make a happy thing self-deprecating. Congratulations! You've earned this particular wait time. And Grendel's Mother: I agree. Some promising noises, indeed, but nothing definitive. Now I'm stuck over-analyzing the emails I've gotten from the DGS. "Our recruiting has been exceptional, and we need a little time to see exactly where things stand and if it is possible to accommodate another admit." So what does that mean for *me* haha?
  4. Is anyone still receiving responses? I've been wait listed at UCSB, and have received no response yet. I'm wondering if there are people out there who are still waiting on schools to get back to them.
  5. I was under the impression that official admits have until the 15th of April to decide, and as such those offered spots off of the wait list would have a little bit of time to consider (assuming, though, that those admitted off of the wait list are admitted on the 15th).
  6. In a similar vein, can anyone comment on the status of UCSB's wait list, or whether or not they've declined their offer/asked to me removed from the list?
  7. Thanks for the advice, Shortstack. I sent an email as per your suggestion. I feel like we live an a textual age, and people respond better to emails rather than over the phone. It's stressful, but you got accepted somewhere! At least at the end of the day, you know you have the option of going somewhere. I hope you get into the wait listed school, just so you have more options.
  8. I, too, am wait listed. I've found out that at least two people who got accepted into the program are declining (or have already declined). I'm wondering what the protocol is for inquiring as to the status of the wait list. Should I call? Or wait for them to contact me?
  9. UCSB put me on their wait list. I imagine rejections/acceptances have thus gone out.
  10. Amazing. I will definitely keep you posted, so to speak, on what happens. Thanks for the update. Curious: Where did you decide to go?
  11. I definitely approve of this. I got waitlisted at UCSB, and am stuck in this purgatory. It's almost cruel, right?
  12. I know the feeling. I was rejected by all the programs on my first go-around, and MAPH was the only thing I got into. Even though the chances for even partial funding are slim at best, I would still recommend going. You learn a great deal, and having an MA from U Chicago can't hurt your chances next application season. It's also nice to see what exactly entails graduate study as well. A lot of people in my cohort decided they didn't really want to pursue a Ph.D.
  13. Anyone get into UCSB's program and don't plan on going? The question is specifically for people who are interested in the Early Modern. According to the email, the wait list is relatively short (8 people, and last year 2 on the wait list got accepted), but it's separated via literary-historical periods instead of simply being a numbered list. Congrats to all those who got accepted!
