  1. I'm also heading to Syracuse in the Fall (for Anthropology). I was just there on the 28th of February for a conference, and yes, it was damn cold lol. I'm from the Capital Region of New York so it's not a huge change for me, but they definitely get more snow than we do. With that, they were voted #1 on the snowiest campus list (in America): http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2014/02/syracuse_university_snowiest_colleges_list_weather_channel.html The snow doesn't phase me though. It is what it is and I've been digging myself out for a while now lol. I love the Northeast and wouldn't want to have it any other way. Overall, I think that the campus is awesome and the surrounding area has a lot to offer. I think that you would need to travel by car, bus, or taxi mostly...anyone who wants to bike around the city would need to be quite experienced/brave. I wouldn't do it. As for rent, I think you could land a studio for $500-600/month. I think that a graduate stipend would go pretty far here...definitely not NYC costs. I will most likely be commuting to the school, probably about a half hour drive. Hopefully I won't regret it in the winters, but I'd also like to live with my boyfriend versus living alone.
