  1. I am just wondering if anyone knows which schools of social work are reputed to have the most funding available in the way of scholarships, grants, field placements, or basically any means. As a first-generation college student with no social capital to draw on for a cosigner for the Graduate Plus loan, I am worried about my ability to pay for grad school. Stafford loans, which are the only federal loans available to graduate students with no credit or bad credit, are capped at about $20,000 a year, which doesn't even cover tuition in most cases. So, my question is, how do ya'll do it? Are there any schools that consistently award large scholarships or have other ways to help graduate students cover their cost of living?
  2. Thanks so much for your reply, Detroiter. All of that sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
  3. Hey Jolcia, I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you've been having. Maybe, as a sort of thought experiment, you could consider where you would otherwise be if not enrolled in this program. Would your life seem better or worse? You may also consider the line of reasoning that led you to be enrolled in your program to begin with. Applying to grad school takes a lot of work, so obviously, it didn't happen by accident; it was deliberate. And if you had good reasons for pursuing it to begin with, then perhaps your doubts stem from somewhere else. Social anxiety, trying to straddle two different cultures, whatever it may be... is it self-defeating doubt that you should work to push past, or is it a deep-seated, irreconcilable conflict with the fundamentals of the discipline? That seems like it would be the most important question to ask.
  4. Hey all, I am just curious as to whether or not anyone has been able to access a comprehensive, up-to-date list of admissions statistics for master's programs in social work. Other than reaching out to program affiliates directly, I know of only two resources that give these figures: petersons.com, and an article published in the Journal of Social Work Education consolidating data from 1990-2004. But, these sources are conflicting and obviously, a lot can change in ten years. Does anyone know of a better, more recent, or more reliable resource, or is it pretty much dredging up the numbers from wherever you can in a piecemeal fashion and hoping they're in the right ballpark? I know these stats posts can be annoying, but I think most of us know what it's like to be nervous about our chances of being admitted to our schools of choice... I won't even be applying for another year, and I'm already trying to soothe my worries and anxieties about grad school.
  5. Congratulations on your acceptance to Case! Would you mind sharing your stats? I am interested in applying to Case for Fall 2015 and am trying to gauge my chances, which has been difficult to do online given the relative obscurity of the program compared to other programs. I bet you are so excited.
