Well you said you already have an offer, so they clearly think you are qualified. Is your offer conditional or unconditional? Check the offer conditions if it is conditional. There will likely be a line about your final marks being up to a certain standard when you send them your transcripts, if you haven't done so already. If you are close to the required GPA but not quite there I doubt that alone would completely disqualify you, if you already have an offer. This should all be in the fine print of your offer though.

I think it strongly depends on your research interests, expertise, and ability to pick up new material, as well as how you mesh with the faculty at the school you are applying to. I went from semiconductor physics into biomedical engineering from undergrad to masters and it took a lot of work to catch up on unfamiliar areas but I did it. No reason not to at least apply and see what happens.

From my understanding a First Class designation is equivalent to a 3.68-4.00 GPA or 70%+ mark in North America.

Hey there, I am wondering if anyone in the international round for the Gates Cambridge scholarship as been notified of shortlisting yet? Online it says notifications should be sent out in "early March" but I haven't heard anything yet and the website still says: "International round: we are currently asking departments to nominate candidates (the first part of the process) and departmental nominations will be sent to the Trust in early March. At this point Shortlisting Committees will review these applications and suggest an interview list. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted by the Trust in early March. If you have not been contacted by the Trust by mid-March you application has been unsuccessful."
